How's the Weather Where You Are?

cool today with the temperature at -16c...
Tonight will be -29c ... tomorrow they are calling for about 15 to 20cms of snow...
Still colder tomorrow night and for the week-end.. Somewhere around the -40c range...

We need the cold very badly to thicken up the ice on the frozen lakes for ice fishing tournaments...

For the last three nights, we have had very low, very dense fog. I'm talking about if you must drive put your flashers on and don't go faster than 20 mph. My son said it reminded him of flying in clouds. I told him "There's a reason for that..." ;)

The weather predicts that to continue for several more days "All the way up to Eureka!"

But of course, the weather guy said it would be in the high 50°s tonight and at best, it is mid-40°s. Not exactly cold by my standards, this is what I call "Sweater Weather", but that and the level of ground water after all the rain we've been getting is what is keeping the "Tule Fog" in place.

The forecasted snowfall (on Weather Underground) for me keeps going down. It's now only 5.6" with less than 1" of sleet, etc forecasted for Sunday. The tv weather is only calling for 0.10" to 0.25" of sleet, etc for the general region. It will still be cold, but we may have dodged the power outage bullet. I feel bad for those who won't. No power=No heat.

We had some kind of frozen rain that sounded like little pellets coming down earlier, but it is supposed to be snow anytime now, or wintery mix, whatever that turns out to be. The weather app says it is 26/FL 15, and wind up to 22 mph. It is actually as cold as it is supposed to be, gradually warming up into the 30’s, and it shows the temp at 39 by midnight tonight and rising into the 40’s by tomorrow morning, with a snow and rain mix most of the day here in north Alabama.

So has the risk of sleet (and its attendant power outages) passed?

I think so, but it is hard to tell, @John Brunner . We have snow in the forecast, but the temps are in the 30’s and getting warmer, so it might end up being a mix or a cold rain. Supposed to be 50 by tomorrow noon, and then start dropping. So, I think we are past the ice storm thing, and will just have cold weather and black ice here, but we will just have to see what happens the rest of today..
So far, no power outages, but they are reporting icy roads,

Weather Underground just put up a number of 2" for "wintry mix." I'm not happy.

The entire region dodged a massive bullet. There were supposed to be major power outages with a string of single-digit overnight lows and sub-zero wind chills.

The ice storm was 45 miles east of me up the Interstate 95 corridor. This afternoon the Richmond news (middle of the ice storm) said there were only 600 power outages, and those were in the coastal/tidewater area southeast of that...and that had turned to rain because of warm coastal air I have no idea how the rest of the state fared. We got snow & sleet all night and all day, with a 2 hour breather in the middle.

We're still gonna be historically frigid for the rest of this month.

The snow is coming now, but I still wouldn't consider 10 inches of snow severe weather in January. Ten inches of snow near the end of January in Maine is simply January in Maine. It's not fun shoveling it, but it's not unusual.
