Shopping--What did you buy?

If you're as picky about coffee as I am & you usually make coffee for one - two people, I found something inexpensive that makes great coffee though it's a manual hands-on thing: The reason the coffee is so good is it soaks in the water for 3-4 minutes & doesn't go into the cup until you place it on the cup. That allows time for complete flavor extraction.

Very interesting, Mr John! I'll have to investigate the "Clever Dripper". :coffee:

When I see photos of homes 🏠 posted by other members in different countries , I wonder why you don't have an attached carport / garage …or add one for the protection of your car 🚗

Question prompted by the photo of the pop.up type car protection carport photo posted by @John Brunner

All new homes are built with a carport or garage now days , most old homes will have afterthought attached lean to’s/ carport

We as many 100’s of homes do , have a large back verandah attached right across the back of our home ….its 4 mtrs out from the house x 14 mtrs long …it not only gives us shelter from the summer sun ,but also protects the back section of the house ….stops heat on the house itself

Then we have a peaked roof verandah 5x 6 mtrs attached to the back of the 2 car garage ..and the outta section of the family room

Just a curious question ….

Almost all homes in my area have garages, Kate. We have a 2-car garage attached to the house and our house was built in 1994. It seems that we and our next door neighbor are the only people on the block who use the garages for vehicles, though.

I got a great car battery charger that also analyzes the battery to determine its condition. Previously, I'd replace the battery when it was four years old, since a car battery's life expectancy is 2-4 years. But by charging every few months after the battery is four years old, its life can be extended for much longer. I have recharged mine twice. I got the car new in 2021 & the charger showed 40% capacity & it's now 95% after a couple hours on the charger. As for cost, the charger cost $130.00 - half the cost of a new battery.

I have a Conditioner on my car and my truck, which is a little different than a charger (although the "Repair" function on yours might serve as a Conditioner):

It stays mounted under the hood, attached to the battery terminals (although you can get one with clamps rather than o-rings.) But you have to keep an extension cord run to them. I got the first one for my truck because it's only driven once a month, then added one to my car.

As you said, they greatly extend the life of the battery. I read an article stating that 80%+ of "dead" batteries that get replaced are still perfectly serviceable. I still have the factory battery from my 2019 Mazda.

I started looking at solar-powered lighting ideas for my mailbox. Even though I am assed for street lighting, the closest light is maked by somebody's great bit Maple "street tree" so the end of my driveway is in the dark.

I figured iy can't hurt to hav a "mmarker light" of some sort out there at least, so I started looking through ideas.

I ened up choosing this. It should help for after-dark deliveries in the Winter as well.

You can stick it in the ground on two posts (included) on atop the mailbox as I have chosen.

I was worried. The ad copy and the potos all suggest there are only 3 sets of 0-9 included but my addess has two 8s in it. With both sides of the light, I need four 6s.

They do not sell "refills" separately, but maybe I got lucky because I recevied four sets of the 0-9 so I didn't hav to color in a 3 or something. Whew.

The thing can light up in any of 12 maybe 16 colors. Most look nice enough, but white looks best to me, and it has both cold white and a softer warm white (went with the latter). Got my holes drilled, brackets mounted, and insert the fixture. Good sunlight today, can't wait to see how it looks after dark.

If you like how it looks, post a link later. I'm at the end of a 1/2 mile gravel path through the woods and don't have numbers on my house. That might work for delivery & EMS purposes.

I'll let you know. The mailbox brackets are plastic and attach to the box via one stainless steel screw and wingnut each. The spike/posts look decent for the price, but might not sit tall enough if you have tall grass out there.

Assuming it looks good (I might go down from the warm-white to yellow if too bright at night) my next concern is how well the number decals hold up to sunlight and weather. Good call on the EMS issue there too! (y)

Oh BTW: Those cardboard things are templates you can lay on the white lighted area. They help you position 3, 4, or 5 digits/letters more accurately - but I suppose you could just go "drunk uncle" on purpose for a bit of a Mountain Dew vibe. 😝

There is also a strip of solid material for any custom symbols you might want or need. Just cut them out yourself.

I am used to working on the phone and that moved into my shopping a long time ago.
A new dining table has been on the horizon since we moved to Oklahoma. A Theodore Alexander extending to 12 feet overwhelms the dining area. SO asked me yesterday what I want. 48 inches, round, one leaf, no plywood, new chairs are optional. Two hours later we scheduled an appointment in Tulsa (2 hours one way) for Friday. We may be able to keep the chairs and will be able to match the finish:) 10-12 week. Our table is looking for a good home.

Tony, I remember your 'thing' with soaps. I also love good soap but recently I have been using liquid soaps (or "bath gel") more than bar soap. I particularly like the Philosophy brand; they have such pleasant scents.
