What Are You Doing Today?

@John Brunner - Ever notice if something works for you,- you like, can afford it, that its always, bad for you, will kill you, blah blah blah.....THEY always find a way to bring us down -one way or another :p

Yup. I don't take Benadryl (or much of anything) very often, so I'm not overly concerned...except that my mother had dementia. I keep a variety of stuff on hand just in case I need it, but am always tossing nearly-full containers of OTC meds when they hit their expiry date (which is another topic of discussion.)

I slept in late. For some reason I had massive sinus drainage and sneezing fits when I went to bed last night, so I popped a couple Benadryl. They knocked me on my butt. Then this morning I read that senior folks should not take Benadryl because of "confusion, dizziness, and an increased risk of dementia." damn. So I'll pick up some Claritin or Alegra when I'm at the store. But I'll keep some Benadryl around in case I get stung by yellow jackets. I also keep an Epi Pen handy.
Seems everyone has been having sinus problems. My husband always gets sneezing fits too. He said the sneezing starts to hurt after a dozen sneezes in a row. Hope you feel better.

Thanks, Krystal. I'm fine. I have no idea what started it. I should have only taken one Benadryl rather than two. But I sure slept soundly, rather than waking up several times. I'm gonna grab some Melatonin to help with that, since that's not harmful to take. I just need to zero in on the right dosage. Sometimes 5mg is fine, sometimes 1/2mg knocks me out.

I was continuing on lower deck floor staining yesterday and then the railings looked pale so I am touching them up today. I went to the bird swap this morning and bought a pair of black chickens, the breed of which escapes me just now. But they are a young pair of blacks which is what I wanted. The theory is that black chickens confuse hawks into thinking there are crows in your flock. Crows protect their young with intention so hawks sometimes avoid them. The roo got away from me when I was transferring him into the chicken tractor so I had to net him. Now he seems scared to death of me. I did not hurt him but he was sort of catatonic after I caught him. Then I powdered him with diatomaceous earth because he had been pulling at his tail feathers at the sale. He will never let me touch him again, I bet.

Happy Sunday to all. I need to make a Publix run to pick up some edibles, since my lady friend called yesterday and asked if I would pick her up and bring her to my home for a while. I don't blame her for getting "cabin fever". I know I would.

And on a sad note, my Buckeyes football team took quite a spanking from USC last night, 30 - 18, Considering the Buckeyes went into the game rated 2nd in the nation, and USC was unranked, it was an upset. So much for "rankings"....

We have been getting some much needed rain since early this morning, and it has been a good soaking kind of rain, coming down steady and soaking in, not a downpour like we sometimes have here.
So, today is definitely an inside day. Doing louse stuff (laundry, making warm breakfast for the kitty cats, etc) and doing some knitting and reading.
The rain is supposed to stop today by around noon, so I just put in a grocery order from Walmart. I have been learning more about collagen, so I am going to try and add more of the collagen foods into our diets.

SO had tickets for Western Heritage Museum in a play date bag. I gave five away and we used the remaining two. The place got cleaned up. Still some incorrect labels as far as guns are concerned:) We enjoyed it.
For the rodeo folks - a complete PBR exhibit is going up. Some is already open to the public including the 2026 champions buckle.

@Yvonne Smith my area enjoyed some of that rain yesterday. I was ecstatic when my horses came in this morning with mud on their hooves🤸🏾‍♀️🤸🏾‍♀️. It was a nice garden shower rain.

Wednesday we are supposed to see a bit of a gully washer. We need the rain, but not the wind that will likely come with it.

This AM was chiropractor & spinal decompression time. Then I had to go to the tax assessors office to have my acreages rejoined after someone in that office unjoined the house and 6+ acres from the rest of the bare land. Imagine that and imagine this will cost me another couple hundred in taxes for one cycle🤬🤬

So this was my second trip. I signed all the paperwork that should not have had to happen in the first place, THENNNNN, I was sent across the hallway to pay a $12 recording fee.🔥🔥

This was all supposed to have been don’t when the third parcel was bought in 2009, but apparently it wasn’t done correctly.. At least I’m only out $12 and there’s an elevator to the third floor where the tax assessor is🙄🙄

We voted early last week to avoid the crowds at the polls today. I'm really nervous about the Texas senate race, and if Tallarico wins this will be my last time to ever cast a vote; I will be done with politics. I'm sick of all the political ads so I'll be happy when this day is done.

I'm still obsessing about cataract surgery options so I'm getting my "ask the surgeon" questions ready for tomorrow. I wish I was one of those people who go in, get limited information beyond the surgery date, and have the procedure done while remaining clueless. Like my sister... her doctor said she needed cataracts removed. She had the surgery and has no idea what kind of lenses she has or whether she had laser surgery or not. Her eyesight is 100% better and she has not had to wear glasses since.

Same thing for my husband's brother in law... he had the surgery and doesn't have a clue about what type of lens was implanted in his eye. I on the other hand, have to research stuff to death and obsess over it for months; frankly it gets exhausting.

I'm the same way. The two times I made the conscious decision to not research things to death and to just trust the sales guy is when I bought an expensive Stihl weed eater and a zero turn lawnmower.

The guy who sold me the seed eater sold me the one he had in stock and not the next one up you could put blades on that he would have had to order (which in hindsight is the one I needed.) I shall forever seethe about that as I am on my knees cutting stuff the better Stihl would have done.

The guy who sold me the zero turn almost let me walk out with a significantly lower end model that had the same monthly payments had I not asked an innocuous question as he was writing up the deal.

Never again. Verify then trust. There is a reason we are this way. Someone else can roll the dice in their lives.

Got injection in my bothersome hip and managed to vote. SO deemed me ready for some sofa time. A good time to finish Christmas shopping! Christmas calendars instead of cards as most of them did not make it last year. Coffee for the older folks in our circle. Most have cut back due to price so it takes some careful chitchat to find out what they really want. Then there are the difficult ones:) I walked out of the gift shop if the Western Heritage Museum without the bracelet. Correct! It checked all the boxes - cuff, six ounces, modern, hallmarked by an artist whose work I am familiar with. It did not say “take me home”. Poor SO. He thought it was a done deal.

I finally got off of my butt to work with this firewood. I moved some to the front porch, cut kindling, then started to stack the 4 truckloads I had delivered. I got about halfway done with that and my neighbors pulled in my driveway, got out, and helped me stack the last 2 truckloads. They were on their way to Walmart and heard my tractor. I am so lucky to have these folks here near me.

I am beat. I am so out of shape. I'll get out tomorrow and cut more kindling and maybe clean out the flu. Supposed to rain Thursday and a little Friday, but not get cold enough yet to need the fire until maybe a week from Thursday, if then. It is insane how mild it's been so far. We have yet to get frost, and a week from Thursday would be a definite "maybe."

Mother Nature is going through menopause. The cold will come. Be ready.

Feeling a lot better. So an hour of stretching and working with bands. Not fun but necessary.
We have to empty the big freezer and take inventory. Pulling a truck partially out of the garage and using the tailgate as table will be helpful. Then there is the basket of ironing which smiles at me. Or is it laughing?
