"Tony" Thought Journal 3.0

last week my wife went to the doctor she was suffering from off balance and lightheadedness. our doctor prescribed an MRI. She made an appointment for this Thursday to have the MRI done. She got a text late yesterday afternoon that the authorization by our insurance company was denied.

I'm concerned because she is very pale and her lips look purplish. The light-headedness and off balance feeling has lessened but the fatigue is still there. We will be calling the doctor today to get the results of the blood test maybe that'll show something. Her coloring reminds me of a few years back she had the same appearance and it wound up she was anemic.

Today you have to be your own advocate when it comes to your health. When she got home from the doctor last week, I ask her if they took blood samples her answer was no, they weren't giving her a blood test. I called them and they sent a prescription to a local lab where I took her last Friday for a blood test.

We decided she would start eating foods with iron, in case she is anemic.

The last few weeks have been really tiresome for me. I try to take my mind off of things by gardening, doing the chat room, watching some TV. These temporary escapes are not doing the job anymore. I feel like hibernating, I guess that's running away from your issues which I never did before, I like facing them and getting them done.

When the sun comes up today I will make it wash the slate clean.
Vitamin b12? You can get lozenges to dissolve under the tongue until you get results of blood tests. Most of us are deficient. Oxygen like Beth said.

My morning routine is that I'll let our 3 dogs out into the backyard to do their business. While they are out, I fill their food and water dishes.

This morning, when I went to check if they wanted to come in, Tia was lying on top of the snow, (We still have snow from the last storm) it looked like she was eating something. I called her to come in, and she hobbled her way to the door. That's when I noticed her paw was dripping with blood. It was bleeding heavily. I called my wife, and she got clean towels and started washing and cleaning the blood off. My daughter joined us and took over for my wife. I looked on line what to do, and it said to keep pressure on the wound for 5-15 minutes to stop the bleeding. It didn't work, so I called the Vet.

The automatic answer system said "press 1if it's an emergency," so I pressed 1." They answered immediately, I explained that Tia was bleeding heavily and we had no success in slowing the blood down, and she might need stitches. They responded we could give you an appointment tomorrow at 9:30am. I said, "Are you kidding?" My dog needs attention now. They said "well maybe we could squeeze you in tonight." I hung up.

We found another Vet that took her in immediately and cleaned and bandaged Tia, and we have a follow-up appointment on Saturday.

The Vet's office that refused to help has been Tia doctor for 6 years, we won't be going back, we've already requested her records.

I am so glad you found a Vet to help you!! I hope Tia is ok.

I know how you feel. I had the same experience, Tony, which I am still foaming at the mouth about. Two years ago on a Sunday morning, my outdoor/garage kitty got attacked by something right outside my garage and he managed to crawl back into the garage. I don't know what happened but his stomach was ripped opened. I called the Vet that took care of him and I got an answering machine. It said if it is an emergency to take my pet to the animal hospital, which is now 2 hours away from here. The one that was near me was sold and turned into something else. But….I called 9 freaking Vets and no one would help me because my cat was not their patient!! 🤬😤So much for all their talk about treating pets like family. I knew my sweet kitty was going to die. All I wanted was someone to help put him out of pain. We cleaned his wounds and laid him on his heated bed, talked to him, and cried while we watched him die 30 minutes later. It still pisses me off that I can hardly think straight talking about again.

I'm so sorry that's a horrible experience.
I still get teary-eyed about my dog Brandy. I tried everything to save her. I know that feeling of helplessness.

@Tony Page -- good heavens, you have had a full plate lately. How is Tia doing? Did you figure out how she cut herself?

I hope your family are all feeling better, including you!
She was in an area I could not reach the snow is too unregular and I wouldn't be able to walk on it. It could be the sharp edges of the snow melt (ice) sliced her foot.

My daughter has mono, she went for a sonogram today of her spleen. She's stubborn she was told not to lift anything because her spleen could be part of her pain problems and could rupture. She has lots of pain in joints and muscles also

My wife doesn't get her B12 shot until Tuesday so she still feels fatigued, unbalanced sometimes not good.

With my wife and daughter sick not much home cooking is getting done I tried a few times but for the most part I've been ordering take out for the last couple of weeks.

Tia has been hopping around she has not put pressure on that paw. I purchased these waterproof booties that she wears over her bandages so she doesn't get them wet when she goes outside.
Tomorrow she goes back to the vet to make sure it's not infected and to give her fresh bandages. The vet did prescribe antibiotics for her and she's been taken them without any side effects.

I'm doing okay just tired.

My daughter says '26 is started off really bad let's hope it improves.

The good news is so far about 12 of my seedlings have popped up.

Bless you, I imagine you are quite tired. I hope everyone gets better soon and that this is the worst of 2026 so you can put it behind you and have smooth sailing from here on!

Argh, I'm so jealous of the seedlings. I'm getting garden fever after being outside all morning. Of course I have given all my raised beds away so I don't have any place to "garden" anymore. Maybe I'll get another tall (waist high) wooden bed and plant 2 tomatoes, haha.

You may not believe this but I never even ate a tomato until after I was married. I wouldn't even try them but once I started growing them and my wife prepared them in a tomato salad, gradually I got hooked.

NOW I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THEM!!!

I grew up on a farm, so in the summertime as a kid I could wander down to the garden field and pick sun-warmed tomatoes to my heart's content. I have always loved tomatoes, and I still remember the quart jars of canned tomatoes that my mother and grandma put up every year.

I have several cherry tomato plants in Aerogardens, so I can still walk by and pluck a little red tomato to pop in my mouth!

That's a w&w (warm & wonderful) memory.

In conversation during lunch we asked my daughter how "Buddy" was doing. We rescued him

The story is last August I saw a kitten hiding under our shed. My daughter takes after me, she also is an animal lover. When I told her about the kitten she became obsessed in catching it. in the meantime we kept it nourished it took about two days for her to succeed and capture it. The kitten was sweet and not violent.

My daughter took him to the vet to be examined and get up to date on shots. He is a beautiful cat.

We decided to look for a good home for him. We couldn't keep him, with 3 dogs that are not friendly to cats and 4 of us are allergic.

One of my daughter's friends took him. She brought him to her vet and found out he has no eyelids or half lids, something our vet didn't pickup.

Recently she told my daughter that they love this cat he is sweet and loving, very affectionate. He enjoys taking long car rides with them to Massachusetts.

We glad he found a good home, and is being treated like family.

Had to make corrections I forgot she was he.

Adorable!!🥰

My daughter did all the work capturing, taking care of and finding a home for "buddy."

She sent me a younger photo of him, see below.

Buddy is precious, Tony. Is he a Tuxedo? I don't know much about cats.

ETA--apparently he is a Tuxedo...

"Markings: Tuxedos typically feature white "socks" or "gloves," a white chest, and a white chin/muzzle. General black and white cats may have white on their backs, tails, or irregular facial markings."

I don't know much about cats either, my daughter thinks he is a tuxedo.

My wife just got through to the Doctor, he can't understand why they deny the MRI. Her blood test showed that she was deficient in B12. She's going to be getting B12 shots for the next 3 months starting next Tuesday. I feel that's what her problem was. Looking it up online it seems to cover all her symptoms and her appearance.
B12 deficiency causes anemia--pernicious anemia. It was once quite common but is less common today. Before the B12 assay was developed, B12 was "guessed at" by using a gastric analysis and sampling stomach contents. Shots are best when remedying a diagnosed deficiency, but lozenges, and gummies are good for prevention and for fixing minor deficiencies.

I was just thinking with age comes experience with experience comes knowledge.

What if a present day Noah filled an ark with senior citizens. I think it might make a funny sitcom. An Ark of Golden Girls/Boys. I know it's a dumb idea, but it could be interesting.

Yesterday we took my dog Tia back to the vet for her final visit because she had a deep cut on her paw. Actually I got a good look at it and it looks like a large deep scrape on the side of her paw. We're to put an antibiotic ointment on it once a day for about a week. We bandage it with gauze and put a boot over it when she goes outside. she tends to pull the bandage off it's a constant battle to keep it covered.

Yesterday was a rainy dreary day it melted most of the snow. We're expecting another storm tomorrow worse than the prior one. They say we can expect anywhere from 8 to 12 in. of snow. I have a follow-up appointment with a nurse practitioner at MSK on Wednesday if the roads are bad I won't be traveling on them. I was hoping to be able to discuss some of the medical problems I'm having and if they think they are related to the cancer treatment or something else.

My daughter my wife and I have been having discussions about moving off of Long Island. This last discussion we all agreed we should move after this school year ends. The cost to live here has gotten extremely high. Our property value was reaccessed after it was refurbished because of the fire, our taxes have gone up to over $13,000 a year. All of our utilities have steadily increased over the past 3 years with large increases. Our electric was just budgeted for an increase of $50 a month more, gas budget increased $30 per month. Water has increased also, this past year it's had high levels of chlorine, you could smell it. we've always filtered our drinking water, now we filtered it for cooking use also.

One of the states we're looking to move to is South Carolina. We have a niece and nephew living there, and right across the border in North Carolina my wife's brother lives and we have another nephew there.

The nephew that lives in South Carolina is a sports medicine doctor he might be able to help us find a doctor and medical facilities down there.

Our other 2 daughter's and 4 grandkids live in New York, that's about a 12-hour drive from South Carolina so that's a little problematic if we want to visit, and the only negative about moving out of state to South Carolina.

I want to do some research maybe there's a state closer that has good schools for my grandkids at a lower cost of living. it would be nice to get away from the cold Winters also. My wife and daughter would rather move to where we have some family they're probably right so South Carolina might be the only choice we have.

I've lived in New York for 82 years now, if it wasn't for the cost of living I wouldn't even think about moving. Besides my daughters I have a brother, and a cousin who's like my sister living within a half hour of us.

If I move I'll never see my family again, other than the daughter and grandkids moving with me.

Maybe it's my age but it scares me to think about moving our roots have been here and I'm comfortable.

Tony I can tell you moving to another state can be difficult, but doable. Make sure you have access to good medical places!
Hopefully decent schools if needed . And yes move where you have family, I regret moving so far from mine.
