Disposable diapers had no elastic gathers... no elasticized waistbands... and no refastenable tapes.

The outside was plastic, the padding bunched, sagged and shifted, and the sticky tapes tore the outer plastic of the diapers when you pulled the tapes open to change the diaper or check for wetness.
