By most other narcotic standards, Hydrocodone is relatively mild. It takes huge amounts to really do anything other than take and edge off of pain, so, for something very serious in nature, it should not even be a drug of choice. My neighbor who has some sort of hip problem takes 60 mg. of Oxycontin every 3-4 hours a day. Further, they are extended release pills she is ingesting, and they catch up with her occasionally. Then she is stoned out of her skull.
Now, when you live in a facility that is merely assisted living, albeit a health institution, I feel that if one requires this sort of pain relief, that person requires a different place for these problems. Oxy is a very strong drug and has its place. But we are an active facility, not a sub-acute treatment center. Money talks, people.
