Pain Relief

I completely agree with you about finding a good doctor, @Marie Mallory ! I have had the same cardiologist for almost 20 years (ever since we moved from Idaho to Alabama), and he is the BEST, but finding good PCP doctor has not been easy at all, and Bobby and I have changed several times, looking for one we like and can trust not to just be a pill pusher.

This year, our Devoted Health Medicare offered a virtual online PCP plan, and we decided to try it and see how it worked for us. We really like how good Devoted Insurance is, and so far, we like the virtual doctor, too.
We have an initial visit, than a follow up, and they sent orders to LabCorp for our lab work, which we just did yesterday. My follow up appointment is in another week.

It is a video conference, and Bobby’s lasted well over a half hour while they went over his health with him, and are now setting him up for appointments with a pulmonary doctor to check his lungs, and then probably a cardiologist for an echocardiogram; so they seem to be pretty efficient, and we can do it right from home, except for lab work or scans where you have to go to a doctors office to have it done.
Yvonne This online thing sounds like it may be a good way to go, especially with all the viruses and contagious illness going around. Thank you.:)

The times that I have taken pain relievers, whether Aspirin, Tylenol, or various prescribed pain relievers after operations and such, they never seemed to do much of anything, so I don't take them. I would probably never take Tylenol again, but I can't say that I'll never take a pain reliever. I just like to reduce the number of medications that I take, and if the things aren't going to actually relieve the pain, then I'll just say no. I did take "baby aspirin" (which should never be given to a baby, by the way) for a while when I was persuaded that it would reduce the chances of heart problems, but I later came to believe that was not true, at least in my case, since my blood is rather thin anyhow, so I don't do that anymore.

Ken thank you for the help. I do appreciate it.

Marie, thanks for your concern.
As it is right now, the pickens are slim to none for 'choosing' a good doctor.
I did ok till now so didn't go to doctors other than blood work.
My primary care doc retired last year, and finding a new doc this day and time is not easy.
I ran into the same problem. I had a doctor I loved for 25 years, then he retired. I had moved about 100 miles away a few years before that, and kept my job back north. I'd continue schedule my annual physicals with the guy to coincide with work meetings I'd be attending in person, and picked up a local guy for any immediate issues I might have. Now I'm with the local guy, but his family practice got absorbed into the regional conglomerate healthcare corporation. He's a good doctor, but things are "different."

When I started having urological problems and then went into crisis with them, I went through 4-5 urologists (maybe more) before finding the one I currently have and really like.

The whole process of finding a doctor sucks, and it's even worse in the middle of a crisis. That's when we need competence and stability.

Ken I can deal with pain, but this is the worse pain to deal with.
It is in my spine, leg and I can not sit on my ass since the tailbone is being eaten by the cancer.much of the end is already eat up and on xray looks like cheese.
I have every kind of opioid, buprofin, etc, etc,
Tylenol is the only thing that helps with the pain.
I'm going to pick up hydrocodone today, opioid with tylenol I think.
You know that Hydro does not work for you. I am confused.

@Yvonne Smith
Can you give me a link to online care you mentioned?
It looks like they are all over in Florida, @Marie Mallory . Here is the website, and you can put in your address information and see if they are in your county. You should still be able to change insurance plans for your Medicare coverage, and Devoted has good coverage and is really easy to contact by phone or by text, anytime you need help, and their doctors can prescribe whatever medications and treatments you need to have.

I have the same problem. The doctor, or rather the NP that I started to go to 3 years ago, has left to take a job with a Big Company, as their healthcare provider. Now, I have to start the search of finding another doctor again. 😠 I have been fortunate that I do not need a primary doctor very often, other than routine blood work. But I still need to have one, if things start to go South, at my age.

The medical profession isn't what it used to be.
John, I read online that many doctors and nurses are quitting ,more so nurses.
A real shortage in nurses especially. I always thank my nurses for their service. And try to be patient with doctors,a patient patient.:)

Krystal, a very wise choice, do not wait till you need one.

Marie, I just took a hydrocodone as I read your reply. I'll see how this works.
Jake googeld and it was first one recommened for elderly severe pain.
Hydrocodone works for me but oxycodone does not. I cannot explain it, but that is the case. Oxy supposedly works longer, but hydrocodone relives pain for me while oxy does not.

Don, seems to be the same for me,only so far Tylenol still halps with pain the most.
I'm trying to deal with the pain more and take less of any of it, but that only last half a day or so before I can't stand it and to back to tylenol.

Bless you @Marie Mallory. I know what real pain is like too. I probably would have become an addict but my wife wouldn't allow it to happen. Hydrocodone doesn't last as long as oxycodone, so you have to take it more often. Tylenol is a pain-only drug like the gabapentin, and there is no anti-inflammatory action to it, but apparently you don't need the anti-inflammation. Do they have you on a 6-hour Tylenol cycle?

No I just take it when pain is bad. Filled the script Thursday so only taken 1 pill total.
So far I've only taken 2 halves of the hydrocodone. It's 10mg with 325mg tylenol.
