How's the Weather Where You Are?

Hurricane Isaias has reached Cat 3 status and due to hit a wide expanse of the Gulf Coast, 10-11 PM EST.

While it will downgrade as it continues to travel NNE, it is going reach clear into KY, VA possibly OH.

I already know to expect 30 to 45 mph wind gust, but where I live in middle Tennessee could possibly see 60 mph wind gust.

We are predicted to have severe flooding rain from different rain bands as they come through. I will welcome the rain because I am not flood prone, we are in the worst level of drought possible and really need the rain. The downside to the rain is if we get too much at once, we have a tree lined road with old trees, whose roots are very thirsty and may indeed collapse across the road.

I am already prepared with enough human & critter food for three weeks.

Prayers to all those who are in a direct line of fire of this cat three hurricane. I hope you have prepared to the best of your abilities.

We are supposed to start getting the wind and rain around 1 AM, according to the latest weather report that I have been watching. We are out of the way of flooding, too, but like you, @Connie Bennett , we have lots of old trees around here so there will probably be trees down and branches down all over our area.
I would not be surprised if we lose power, and the low areas always have flooding with heavy rains, and I imagine the stores are sold out of bread and milk.
The only person that I know of who is close is Ed Delabama (formerly Ed Marsh), and he sad he was ready for the hurricane. Jake Smith is somewhere in the upper part of Florida, and they are getting heavy rains already.

Still waiting for some horse folks to check in on the horse forum.

This one is in Florida. This is only part of the comment:

“—- house where I kept my horses for a while is in rough shape. Trees down. Cow barn roof obliterated. The horse barn roof is struggling. —“

This person has no power and they cannot get off their property due to downed trees and downed powerlines on the road. She has a power line down in the near pasture and has locked her horses in her barn so they don’t get electrocuted.

******

For now all I have is rain but the wind gusts up to 45 MPH are still being predicted for this afternoon. And they aren’t eliminating the chance of a tornado spinup.

Tennessee already has a power crew staged in South Alabama to help with power restoration in that area. They won’t leave until everyone is back on line.

It looks like Oklahoma line crews are packing up for a road trip.
Sunny and breezy here.
Mumsy called in hysterics that a tree branch keeps hitting her window. I asked her to let the 24/7 concierge know and take a book or her knitting to one of the communal sitting areas. Her daughter lives in walking distance.
Has anyone heard from Marie’s widower?

36 outside now. 58 predicted high for today. Sure glad I got my yard work done yesterday. The furnace is on for first time this fall. Heavy dew which is unusual for here.

For some unknown reason, I had a flashback when I donned my long sleeve, zip front, crop top, thermal this morning. It looks youthful with my wide band pants. I remember when Zek was alive, he asked once what was the purpose of a tight fitting thermal sweater, when one or two inches of skin showed between the bottom seam and the top of my pants. Also how it was any thermal benefit when I kept it partially unzipped showing cleavage like I was on the beach. I couldn't explain it then, but I had a revelation this morning. :sneaky:

I think it is the contrast of the cool air hitting the exposed skin V.S. the covered that gives a comfort warm feeling that is more comforting for sitting around, than a longer top and zipping it up into a turtleneck.

Anyway, after I asked Zek, if I looked like Mrs. Archimedes to him and if he was complaining and offended, he said no, just curious about the thermal science behind such a presentation.

It just occurred to me that such a female presentation is a thermal juxtaposition. Sure wish I had thought of that back then. Zeb would have been impressed. :ROFLMAO:

It is just beautiful today. Mid 70's, autumn gold sun. Getting lots of leftover chores done. So glad my daughter had the day off. Gave away an old non working JD sulky mower today. Might be able to make something of the bare spot in that section of the barn. If it were not so breezy I would get some burn piles going.
