The weekly (Thursday) drought report is out. There are 3.5% fewer residents in areas of drought than there were last week, but it's somewhat meaningless because that does not translate into a like-sized area. Like everywhere, densely populated regions skew the stats. Although the Severe Drought areas are shrinking, I'm still in one of them. Statewide, this is the 5th driest January thru June on record (since 1895.) Precipitation is 25% below average. Obviously, some areas are more extreme than others.
I just took a look for our members in North Carolina, since we're all in the same region. They have 1% fewer residents in areas of drought than there were last week, and it's the 2nd driest Jan-June on record for them. Precip there is almost 40% below average.

The dregs of the tropical storm passed through and it's back to sunny and hot. Expected high of about 95°F. We didn't get much rain from that storm.

It looks like most of W VA is fine as far as precip goes, with the exception of a few moderately dry counties. Their total precip is 10% off of average. I think they often get more rain that we do (looks like 2" more per year on average), as the rain drops on their side of the mountains then we get whatever is left over.
81F and the humidity, the black flies, and the mosquitoes are vicious.
