Gardening

Our ground heaves every winter. You can tell by how the sliding doors react. It did not occur to me that it brought up rocks (until we hit some) and that is why farmers have to 'pick rocks' every so often. I figured once you pulled stumps and cleared a field, built your stone fences, you were done.
I was young and foolish. :giggle:
Yep, any where the ground freezes to any depth, you get rock movement. Our place is on what was likely a glacial moraine at one time, so there are lots of rocks, but the drainage is great once the thin soil thaws.

Hopefully the sprinkler system is fixed. There is a special place for contractors in afterlife!

Chard is exploding as is dill, peas are finally blooming. Cosmos and star gazers offer free buffet for pollinators and hummers. Holly hocks as everywhere.

SO added two bird houses last week. Seven have tenants and are on their second clutch. For two days a blue bird tried to move in but he wanted furnished while nobody wanted to leave.

The side of my house became over run with overgrown weeds. I hired a 2 gardeners to pull the weeds, and lay weed blocker to prevent there return. It turned out good. There is a raised bed there already, I want to add more raised beds and some pots. Before and after photos below.

I started two pots of potatoes a few weeks ago, they are doing well. The leaves look healthy and are a nice dark green.

Unless somebody volunteers to help, looks like all my vegetable gardening is going to be either in pots or raised beds. I will start planting every my seedlings this week. I may have the purchase more soil for the pots and raised beds.
