Getting Old

Some of the new AirPods from Apple are designed to help people with hearing problems, @Don Alaska, and there might be other companies that make similar devices. My daughter got her dad a set of the AirPods, and it really helped him to hear, especially when she called him on the phone. She said he even spoke clearer with the AirPods in his ears, where before, he either mumbled incoherently, or he shouted.
They work with the phone for regular conversations, but I am not sure how that part works, I have just been told that they can do that.
My friend, Evelyn, used to do a lot of her conversations by text because of hearing issues, and if someone uses talk to text with you, they can speak into their phone, and it shows up as text on yours.
Nothing is going to totally replace hearing loss, but maybe something like this could help ?
I have another audiologist appointment on January 2. Maybe something will come of that...or not.

When I wake up sometimes and I don't hurt, I wonder why. It used to be if I woke up hurting I would wonder why and try to fix it. I don't take drugs so little helps but the little is what I do. I am dreaming of what I can do in the spring and trying to keep up as I can. But sometimes down time is important.
I can identify with your issues @Mary Stetler. I felt the best I have felt in weeks yesterday evening. I don't know why. I raised my intake of B vitamins, so maybe that was it. My pulse was regular last night, but it is not this morning. That seems to be one of the issues.

When I make Dandelion/burdock root tea, I notice my hands don't shake. I eat the leavings after drinking the tea. Excellent source of minerals. I blame everything on what I eat or don't eat. It may not be true but is am still looking for the perfect balance and eating the same all the time is not it. ;)
There's always the barometer.

@Mary Robi - oh so true. Everyday I wake up and wonder what in blazes will go down today/! The chronic back pain never leaves, but then the feet hurt, my left leg has glitch in it. All through the Cmas holidays I fought planters faciatis and could not walk. Now, of all things, a mole on the inside of a butt cheek after 50 years of having been removed- is back and feels odd! What the hell is that all about? The list goes on. Get one issue taken care of an another pops up.
The weird thing is - my hubby who is 7 years younger than me---- if I get, he gets. Someone shoot me :ROFLMAO:

Mary.......... Try some gefilte fish... It works wonders...
also some chicken soup..... good for what ails you...
I used to make chicken soup from butcher's neck bones but there are not actual butchers here and no neck bones in the big grocery stores. I make some mean matzo balls my gram taught me. Don't know how to make the fish.

I think hearing loss is making me older by the minute. We have lots of company around this time of year, and I usually cannot understand the conversations. Most of the time when I go to a doctor or some other professional for whatever, I have to take my wife with me as "interpreter" as I cannot communicate well. It seemed to start (the hearing loss) rather suddenly about 12 years ago and I quickly became deaf in my left ear and diminished in my right. It was one of the major reasons I retired when I did as I could no longer understand people on the telephone, especially if English was not their first language. I had very keen hearing before that, so it was very sad to lose it so suddenly. I am sure that it is something organic, but no one I have been to really seems to care. The audiologists (I have been to 6) can detect problems, and they refer me to an ENT (I have been to 3), and if there is no tumor or anything that can be obviously surgically repaired, they don't seem to care. When my eardrum burst in my left ear, my hearing was very much improved after it healed. The last ENT, and the one I currently see, found fluid behind the drum of my right ear and performed a myringotomy with tube on that ear. Fluid drained and hearing improved, but as soon as the tube healed and fell out, the hearing loss began again. There was not nearly the improvement that had occurred with my left ear. The problem is only getting worse.

That is my sad story, and it is very lonely being deaf, even in a crowd. I have lots of physical aches and pains, especially after breaking my back and my eyes are going too, but so far, hearing loss has been the worst handicap.
I’m not meaning to trivialize your hearing trauma in the least but there is a positive factor:
A major portion of all divorces can be traced back to husbands who, as the wives say, don’t listen.
In your case, that box can’t be checked because it’s hard to listen if ya can’t hear.

Seriously though, I do pray that if there is a way to get your hearing back, it happens soon.
My problems do not compare in any way with yours (thankfully) but between the constant tinnitus and the inability to hear the higher frequencies bugs the heck out of me but still, I can’t imagine what you’re going through.

Thanks, @Bobby Cole. One of the frustrating things is that I believe that my issues could be made better if I could find someone who really cared and actually tried to fix them. Everybody wants to just rely on amplification, which isn't the only problem. Medical people all seem to think it is age-related "male" (i.e., guns, tools, etc.) but my issue was rather sudden onset and I have worn hearing protection every time I did anything loud or percussive.

One of the things that I keep reading about for hearing problems is DMSO, and people have had hearing improvement with putting a few drops in the ear, just like we do with the hydrogen peroxide to get rid of a cold or flu. I have not tried DMSO in my ears, but it can’t hurt anything, and might be worth at least trying. If you do an online search for DMSO and hearing loss or tinnitus, there is quite a bit of good information to be found.

I might try it in may left ear, but my right ear still has a tube in it and I cannot put anything in there.

I'm going through the same thing. I get angry because underlying causes generally only get worse.

Jake and I both have tinnitus; Jake has to listen to the radio at night to fall asleep.

One thing I've noticed lately is that I take a lot of inadvertent naps. I have never been a napper, but lately if I sit in my recliner after dinner I will slowly doze off. Sometimes it's for 10 minutes and sometimes a couple of hours.

Same. About the last 6 months or so, I can sit down to read in the afternoon and I can nod off for 15-30 minutes. It feels like I sleep really deep too. My brother says the same thing about himself. He naps for 10-15 minutes and it feels like it slept for 8 hours. I don't like to nap. It feels like I am missing out on the day, or I should be doing something productive but yet, I get tired. So I nap.

Sometimes when cleaning out my nose with salt water, leaning over the bath sink and inhaling the solution it shoots out my ears.
