Getting Old

Tomorrow I am having a CT scan.. My doctor found in a recent chest X-Ray, a small spot on top of my left lung.. He was concerned but wanted to wait 6 months to see if it has grown any.. He suspects it could be CANCER but after the CT scan, he will determine if it is it or not..............
I am 84 years old and have never smoked cigarettes, but I did smoke a pipe.. I gave up smoking in 1974 or 1975 and haven't smoked since then.. That's over 50 years ago.. My job in life wasn't one exposed to bad air.. I was a COMMERCIAL INVESTMENT CONSULTANT for about 22 years in Montreal..
We shall see what we see after the results of the CT scan......... Tomorrow...

NSAIDs do make bruising easier, especially aspirin, but vitamin K1 deficiency can also make it worse. I think women tend to bruise more easily as they age because the decrease in estrogen causes a loss of lipids in the skin layers and it makes the skin look thinner. Men don't seem to have as much problem with it until they get very old--90 or over. I don't know why that is, but men have fewer lipids stored in their skin, in part why we don't have the nice curves that women have:)
Iron Deficiency too. That is what makes me wonder. So many of the problems I have can comes from many different sources.

Good luck with your CT, Steve.

My husband had his CT last week to check the spot on his lung. He will have another in 6 months. The spot is borderline and it hasn’t changed from the last CT. IF it is a little bigger next time, they will biopsy it. My husband doesn’t seem concerned by it. He was a smoker in his youth, but he quit and hasn’t smoked for nearly 35 years now.

I sure hope it's just a spot and benign.

I wish my COPD was mild. But then again, my being short of breath could be from something else. That's a side effect of about 2/3 of my meds. Some things are not so obvious, but some are. This clip from "Airplane" comes to mind often... Although my name isn't Leon. :ROFLMAO:

I just got my AARP mag a few minutes ago, guess what the front-page headlines are, Facing The Risk Of Falling and Ease Your Anxiety. Synchronicity? You think maybe the TV told them, l I read the tv is watching and listening.]?
Panic attacks a few days ago, muscle strain a few weeks ago, still need support walking at times.

I'm still pretty mobile, thank goodness. I do have to make sure my knees and hips are OK after sitting for a while, though.

One thing I really HATE about being older is how thin my skin is. Just the smallest bump will cause a bruise that looks awful and stays for a couple of weeks. Lately I always have blue and purple spots on my hands and arms from the smallest bumps from everyday things like making the bed. I was expecting my hand to look horrible after having an IV last Thursday, but surprisingly it didn't.
I take collogen in my coffee every morning and it cut down on bruises. I also take bio rutin which supports capillaries. I take so many pills I don't know why I bother eating food but I don't eat as much as I did when I was younger.
Oh, and my husband only beats me to make bruises when he can catch me.;)

I think hearing loss is making me older by the minute. We have lots of company around this time of year, and I usually cannot understand the conversations. Most of the time when I go to a doctor or some other professional for whatever, I have to take my wife with me as "interpreter" as I cannot communicate well. It seemed to start (the hearing loss) rather suddenly about 12 years ago and I quickly became deaf in my left ear and diminished in my right. It was one of the major reasons I retired when I did as I could no longer understand people on the telephone, especially if English was not their first language. I had very keen hearing before that, so it was very sad to lose it so suddenly. I am sure that it is something organic, but no one I have been to really seems to care. The audiologists (I have been to 6) can detect problems, and they refer me to an ENT (I have been to 3), and if there is no tumor or anything that can be obviously surgically repaired, they don't seem to care. When my eardrum burst in my left ear, my hearing was very much improved after it healed. The last ENT, and the one I currently see, found fluid behind the drum of my right ear and performed a myringotomy with tube on that ear. Fluid drained and hearing improved, but as soon as the tube healed and fell out, the hearing loss began again. There was not nearly the improvement that had occurred with my left ear. The problem is only getting worse.

That is my sad story, and it is very lonely being deaf, even in a crowd. I have lots of physical aches and pains, especially after breaking my back and my eyes are going too, but so far, hearing loss has been the worst handicap.

Some of the new AirPods from Apple are designed to help people with hearing problems, @Don Alaska, and there might be other companies that make similar devices. My daughter got her dad a set of the AirPods, and it really helped him to hear, especially when she called him on the phone. She said he even spoke clearer with the AirPods in his ears, where before, he either mumbled incoherently, or he shouted.
They work with the phone for regular conversations, but I am not sure how that part works, I have just been told that they can do that.
My friend, Evelyn, used to do a lot of her conversations by text because of hearing issues, and if someone uses talk to text with you, they can speak into their phone, and it shows up as text on yours.
Nothing is going to totally replace hearing loss, but maybe something like this could help ?

Don I can imagine how frustrating this is, and with all the new health aids hopefully they come up with something to help you soon.
We seniors really have our obstacles and in many different ways.
Take care,🥰

Steve, do you have the results yet? I hope it turns out to be nothing.

Here with your friends you don't need hearing. But please don't start using deaf sign language, I don't speak it very well. :ROFLMAO:
