Getting Old

How I remember glass baby bottles.

Standing at the stove, bottle set down into a shallow pan of water with a tea towel or dishcloth under to prevent the bottle from breaking, or holding the bottle suspended in the pan of water till warm.

Homemade baby formula, soaking and washing the bottles, then setting them down on the counter to dry.

I used glass baby bottles religiously, switching to plastic Evenflo baby bottles when my kids got mobile, as in upright and toddling. I always worried about them falling with a glass bottle in their hands and cutting themselves bad, so plastic it was after about the one year mark.

Rubber nipples that weren't releasing adequate formula I opened by heating up the end of a diaper pin and sticking it through the rubber nipple.

Thank you for the walk down memory lane, Marie.

Your welcome Madge, you added to our memory's. I did all the things you mentioned too.

My son just sent me that video, and I was going to share it here, but I see that @Beth Gallagher already did. That is good. This woman is pretty much right about everything.
I miss every day the life and time when i was able to live in the country, ride my horse all day, end I even miss that i used to be able to shovel snow when I needed to do that.
Developing new things to do is important, and taking care of our body as best as we can helps a lot.
Now, just being able to putter around out in the yard in the warmer weather is what I mostly look forward to doing. It is a far cry from what I used to be able to do, but it is all that I can do anymore, so i am going to enjoy as much of life as I can , for as long as I can.

I watched the first couple of minutes and quit. It was getting to be a downer.

I was just looking at the Youtube channel and read this disclaimer...

"This content is for educational and inspirational purposes only. The stories shared on this channel are fictionalized to provide life advice and wisdom through storytelling. So now I'm annoyed that I watched it or shared it. I had been impressed with the "woman" in the video but now I'm just disgusted.

That's the problem with AI. I hate it! You don't know what the hell is real anymore. I guess I am just a grumpy old lady. 😬

I also have some concerns about AI. All those high tech individuals constantly trying to improve on ARTIFICIAL Intelligence when they still haven’t learned how to fix REAL stupidity.

Now, as to the topic of the thread, “Getting Old”, I’m already old so the “getting part” is kinda like saying kinda pregnant.
I know I’m old cause I can recall the 50’s and 60’s better than I can remember what I did yesterday.

All that said, even though I know I’m already old, the indication that I might not be old but merely headed in that direction (as indicated by the topic) leaves me somewhat hopeful that I might have a little more time before I actually arrive at old.

It makes me grumpy, too. I started learning to recognize AI generated stuff around Christmas time and it really made me sad. I was reading "heartwarming" stories that had endings that were just too perfect.

I keep moving my definition of "old" up by ten years according to my own birthdays.

No sooner does SSA say they'll start paying my benefit this month than... a new mailing saying "Oh, BTW, payments are delayed by a month. Wait for April 15th or so." 😜

I should have known. Waiting now to see if they screw up my Medicare, since they say I should expect a card soon. Funny, I already have a card, and have had it for 5 years.

Just a note:
For those who believe that as they age, they’re getting more grumpy:

Using a bit of logic, as we age we understand that there are fewer and fewer living people with our experiences, morality and high quality ethics.
So, by using the same logic, it is also understood that there are more and more younger unteachable buttholes in the world hence being a source for mandatory, rebuke and rebuffing by their aged peers.

In other words, I’m not being grumpy. I just have a penchant for recognizing (with grumblings and light cursing) that which wasn’t there until these newer generations arrived.

That makes me think of old slapstick comedy bits about not walking under pianos being hoisted up the outside of buildings. :ROFLMAO: Some people have no sense!

I just heard a story about mass numbers of people moving overseas for a cheap cost of living while they spend money sucked out of our economy via "online work" and such. Not only are the locals becoming bitter about being crowded out and priced out by these foreigners occupying housing and using health care, A.I. might make a lot of these "telework" jobs disappear before long. When the music stops will they have a chair? Or could they find themselves impoverished with no resources and among a disgruntled and less charitable community?

Where are they heading?
