Fast Food Experiences

We have recently discovered Chick-fil-a breakfast biscuits. We are not breakfast eaters on a regular basis, but if we are near a CFA before 10:30 a.m. we have to stop and get a biscuit. (The small fried chicken filet on a fresh biscuit.)

I had them the first time in June 1963 when we moved to Virginia from Indiana. I was a kid and hated ketchup on my burger, and they didn't do special orders. I was not impressed, either, but have been back many times.

Back in the midwest, fast food places served hot dogs and root beer.

Started in 1953 (a year before I was born) with 20 still in operation.
Not to mention that they had the best "Indiana State-Mandated Sandwich", the fried pork tenderloin on a bun. There was one near the house I grew up in and that was my favorite sandwich.

Although I've never seriously viewed it as Mexican food, I used to like Taco Bell, and there was a time when I could eat stuff from Taco Bell without slobbering it all over my shirt; it's not me - there's way more liquid than meat these days.

I don't think I ever ate at a Taco Bell until maybe 10 years ago, and nothing else was open. I was surprised at how "not awful" it was.

When they opened the first Taco Bell in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, I would often joke that, "Finally, some decent Mexican food in the Valley."

I read complaints that the prices have gone up, but T.B. seems to be the best "bargain for what you get" among the fast food places.

After years of rumors, there's a Waffle House (hereinafter referred to as "WH") opening near me next month. I may have been in a WH once decades ago, so will try it again and see how it is.

NextDoor is all a-twitter over it. It's right off the interstate and across the street from IHOP, which has been a big disappointment. I moved here 16 years ago when there were few dining options, and even then with easy interstate access that IHOP was rarely busy. Service always sucked, and they had a hard time getting kitchen help (usually ex-felons transitioning back into life.) Plus the waitresses smoked, so they would take your order, put it in the kitchen, then go outside to smoke and BS. COVID about killed it, and it's now owned by a guy who does not use the IHOP-mandated food sources, so what could not have been worse actually is.

We'll see how this WH does. It seems to have a lot of fans, and unlike post-COVID IHOP, it's gonna be open 24 hours. I understand that the new hires are currently receiving training at the WH location up the interstate, which is scheduled to be closed for renovations once this one opens. So this one may be extra-busy for a while.

So who here has eaten at Waffle House? Do they serve anything other than breakfast food? I'm looking for suggestions.

Weird. My son and DIL stopped at a Waffle House last weekend; they both liked it. I haven't been in a WH in decades so I don't know what they have now, but they used to have burgers and stuff. You might want to peruse their website... https://www.wafflehouse.com/
I was on NextDoor when everyone was raving and asked "What non-breakfast items are good?" I got one response: "I like their waffles."

Edit to add: The only sides on their website are grits, hash browns and tomatoes. No fries. No onion rings. So I guess they avoid the hassle and cost of having deep fryers...everything's done on the griddle.
