That's What She Said

I went to the optometrist earlier, got a new eyeglass prescription and ordered a pair of glasses. The doctor seemed a little surprised that I am not going ahead with the cataract surgery and said that the new glasses will help some but the cataract is just going to keep growing. GAH. 😵‍💫

She also did not recommend contacts for me because she said that glasses provide better, sharper correction. Apparently contacts are not made in specific granular prescriptions but in "ranges", because it would be impossible to stock all the possible prescriptions which makes sense.

So now I need to start studying the various replacement lens options for cataract surgery. I'm sure that surgery will be coming in the next 6 months or so and I have a lot of questions.

Of course I woke up today regretting that I ordered new glasses and thinking I should have just scheduled cataract surgery instead. I don't know why I am so indecisive lately... always second-guessing EVERYTHING. It seems like we are hemorrhaging money these days, too, so I hate wasting it. o_O

It also seems that I am more easily frustrated by things that I used to take in stride. Where is that relaxing, calm old age that I was expecting??

After looking at the extended forecast which shows 80-degree temps for the next 2 weeks, we declared winter officially over and decided to move the tropical plants out of the greenhouse. We got them all moved and the greenhouse is about halfway dismantled, which was a much easier process than we expected. The frame actually folds up similarly to a giant beach umbrella, though it is 8'x8' and much heavier material.

I spread the greenhouse fabric out on the grass in the sunshine to make sure it is totally dry before we roll it up. Then it will stow in the garden shed until next year. The greenhouse was a good idea; all the plants look lush and healthy, and there were several little lizards living in there, too.

Speaking of umbrellas, I noticed that the pool-side umbrellas are pretty faded and worn, so I need to order some new ones. I'll be staring at pictures and trying to decide on a color all afternoon.

I wanted to get outside this afternoon but the weather did not cooperate. It has been a gloomy day, drizzling rain and a lot of wind. I was planning to start trimming some of the dead stuff in the flower beds and getting the patio stuff back in place but the weather drove me back inside.

So I sat around reading and goofing off most of the day.

I woke up this morning with my left ear stopped up. What the hell; I get tired of annoying physical stuff. I thought it would "pop" and open up by now but it's still stopped up so I might pour a little peroxide in there and see what happens. It doesn't hurt or feel feverish or anything; just stopped up. I guess some of my "post nasal drip" must be migrating or something.

We went to early primary voting this morning and got that out of the way. I really wanted to vote for Wesley Hunt for senate but he is running a distant 3rd in the primaries and I didn't want to waste my vote. I hate that he gave up his seat to run for the senate, though.

After voting we went to Kroger. I wanted to try a box of the King Arthur foccacia mix that @Hedi Mitchell mentioned a while back. Luckily it was on sale for half price so I picked up three boxes. I also got a deal on a great looking chuck roast and a few goodies from the bakery.

When we got home I tossed a load of towels into the laundry and made sausage biscuits for a breakfast/lunch/snack. We were hungry after running the roads.

No, there are no security cameras in the area where he parked. That was the first thing we checked.

I am with you on this. Nothing I would hate more than having my eye's operated on and that could easily cause me to be even more indecisive than I am. I must say I run on anger. I get my strength from my gut. But fear sucks everything out of me.
Hope everything looks good when all is said and done. ;)

I had such a nice time yesterday with my two best friends at lunch. I hadn't been to that restaurant in several years since my world seems to be shrinking, but it was outstanding--the food was delicious, prices reasonable and service was great. It's called Antonio's and is an authentic Italian restaurant. We used to go to Antonio's fairly often since it is close to the office building where I worked for many years. I will be making a point of going there more often!

I had a child's plate of fettucine alfredo with grilled chicken that was perfection; creamy and delicious. I could have made a meal of the fresh bread and dipping oil. And of course the company was wonderful; I have known both of my friends for well over 30 years and we have shared a lot of life's ups and downs.

I was thinking about how when we were young women, we'd see cute little old ladies at lunch and we'd usually make comments something like "that will be us someday." Well... it's someday and now we are the little old ladies lunching together.

All my old horse friends are meeting for our birthday party Sunday. Most of us were born in February but we let the rest come anyway. I have a picture of our fifty-eth . We called it our over the hill birthday. Well , we are in our 70's now. What is that? One foot in the grave party?
At least I am still cute. ;) Just got my hair cut and I will stick my head in a vat of brown stuff for some youthful color.

Have a great time, Mary! 🎈🥳

So great you still have long time friends to go to lunch with. I have only one left and she has a hard time getting around. Also she has basically lost her appetite and doesn't eat much, so eating out twice a week, became once, and now once a month. I miss that and also the road trips and eating at rural cafes.

Yes I am amazed at all my horse friends still around.
I had 5 bridesmaids and only two are left, one's my sister. Sister is horsey. I wonder if horses affect longevity. I have decided not to get any older after tomorrow.

If you were closer you could come! Main attraction is an amazing carrot cake that the host's hubby makes.
No horses allowed in the house though.

I finally got to play outside for a while today. I transplanted some daylilies and cleaned out 3 Earthboxes that I inherited from my MIL. Also trimmed a bunch of winter-dead foliage and raked some leaves. Got a bunch of trash out to the curb before the garbage truck came by.

I talked to one of my best friends earlier; she has been struggling with a condition called 'POTS'. It sounds really miserable since it causes extreme dizziness and vertigo. I had never heard of this condition until she was diagnosed; now it seems like I hear about it all the time.

Today is our youngest son's birthday. Nothing makes me feel older than having kids in their 40's. How did this happen??

I have had POTS for years. For those that don't understand, it is caused by a suddenly standing up. The under lying disorder causing it is the inner ear sensing a sudden hydraulic pressure. This pressure causes a mixture of ions that is neuro toxic and causes malfunction in the balance system.

Doctors recommend a lifestyle change for POTS. That change is the same as for Endolymphatic Hydrops (the under lying disorder) which is controlling diet with 5 small balanced meals a day to control how much hydraulic pressure occurs in the inner ear when one suddenly rises. On days I stray to far from the recommended protein, fats, and carb ratio, I will have POTS if I don't rise slowly.

I also get intestinal POTS from eating a bad burrito, but that is a different discussion. :ROFLMAO:

My wife has been suffering from dizziness and unbalanced when she gets up from sitting. She felt she might have an inner ear problem.

She is deaf in one ear, and had micro- surgery in the other about 40 years ago. She uses an hearing aid, but her hearing has suffered since her cancer treatments.

I remember a few years back, every time I got up the room with sway, it had something to do with the liquid in my ears. I did an exercise that I saw on YouTube, as I recall I lay down on my side and then get up quickly it did something to balance the liquid in my ear, the problem went away.

That was probably BPPV--Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo-- @Tony Page. It is relieved by the Epley Maneuver that releases the crystals in the inner ear.

POTS is completely different and is an autonomic nervous system and cardiac disorder that involves heart rate and blood pressure.

Your correct I do recall what I had had something to do with the crystals in my ear.
My wife has an appointment with her cardiologist on Monday, maybe he will verify if she has POTS.

If I remember correctly, the diagnosis for POTS required testing on a tilt table according to my friend. Her cardiologist would not give the definitive POTS diagnosis without this test, which she said was quite unpleasant for someone with vertigo issues. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/hea...ostural-orthostatic-tachycardia-syndrome-pots

I just found out she not seeing the cardiologist on Monday. She's going for a test. Her appointment with the cardiologist is on the 19th.
