What Are You Doing Today?

What is your investment and your time load shifting? What do you mean by AC management?
The load shifting is automatic, I use two powerbanks set up as time-shifting UPS automations. I have about $1300 invested in that. I have learned enough now to do the same for maybe $1000. I'm in my 2nd Summer season on that.

I have another $120 in smaller powerbanks and portable solar panels. I use those to "catch and bucket" sunshine, which I "pour" into my fixed powerbanks for additional savings and use to power lights indoors, charge devices, run electric kettles, fans, etc. These also top up my car battery and charge the batteries for the lawn mower, string trimmer, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, and a pole saw for trimming trees, etc.

Air conditioning (AC) is managed by cooling the house as much as possible naturally at night if humidity is reasonable, making sure the basement gets cooled down using a fan. Good way to get fresh air exchange as well. Then early in the day I run the AC in bursts to chill a little bit and draw out moisture. When the peak rate time arrive I don't let the AC run, relying on just solar powered fans as needed.

There is expense there, sure, and a share of activity. But I admit it's just a hobby activity with exercise getting up to lug stuff outdoors and back in, drag panels around to chase the sunlight between tall trees here, etc.

I've shed 70 to 80 pounds over the past 2 years.

Cancer! She doesn't believe it has spread and visit to surgeon to schedule surgery. Specialty surgeon a month away and the doc says that's too long, so waiting for phone call to try and get it moved up. I am not surprised and grateful for the doctors call for a biopsy, which she says no other oncologist would have done based on scans and blood test that all show good. She says it was the best call she has ever made in 30 years.
Sending good thoughts your way & a hug 🤗

I don't know you very well but I can see your a tough cookie ! ☺️

Good morning to all-

So, I've so far vacuumed the house, been outside to feed chickens and GreyTom the outside cat, and picked a little bit of okra.
Since the entire yard- about an acre or so- is mowed and the garden is still patiently waiting a few days to be completely cleared for fall planting, I may not have to do much chore-wise today.

I may go down to the flying field here in a bit to fly a model RC plane- but I have to be careful- I don't want to spook the home-construction crew building a new house down there. Earlier this week I flew an RC plane when they were working and the whole crew upped and fled away. they were afraid my airplane was a ICE drone spying on them... I assured the foreman that not only was I NOT an ICE agent, that I detest the present way the ICE works and I would try to help the workers any way I could.

What a world we live in...

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

Congratulations to the weight loss!
Thank you for going into details. It is interesting. Too time consuming for our current situation though with 100F+ for extended periods and house/3 bay garage/shop at 72F.

Plans to bring the lawn to justice, were thwarted by a big thunder storm. The air smells so good and all smoke is gone. Hopefully all the lightening didn't start new fires. Lots of sirens this morning by all first responders, police, fire, and paramedic. Still a lot of liberal activist arsonist on the loose that will no doubt start fires in what is left of fall range. They are determine to burn out Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon ranchers. They have failed again to get enough signatures to bring the issue of making animals for food purposes illegal. That included fishing, so even many of the liberals, oppose it. The five arrested so far have been bailed out by their wealthy sponsors.

So, the waiting game starts. All of you having dealt or dealing with cancer, know what I am saying. With this cancer, even if the scan shows nothing for spread, and the surgery is a success, I will be on 6 month testing. I guess they now have an Oncologist Hematologist that will monitor any reoccurrence of this cancer solely by blood markers. It is something new they have developed in the last 6 years. If any cancer is found in surrounding tissue, they will use radiation on it. My oncologist says if I follow this plan, I should make it to 90.

Went to the farm before dawn to check on mother hen and new babies. Hen looked horrible yesterday after brooding for almost a month and now refusing to take the chicks outside for the 'required' three days. I brought some fresh ground barley with vitamins on it yesterday and some cooked hamburger today. She really appreciated the hamburger and called to the chicks as she broke it up into smaller pieces. I have to stand guard because all of the other hens would chase her off the food otherwise. They hear a mother hen calling come and eat to babies and think they are entitled.
Then I drove to a neighbor who has a vegetable stand for some fresh corn on the way back from the farm. I am kind of disappointed because he used to grow his own veggies and eggs but now picks them up at the Amish families. Then he takes the rest to the farmer's market. He's just a middleman now, after building his business from home grown. But then, this year I am just a consumer.

I have some things to drop off at Goodwill; we've taken so much stuff there lately that they recognize our truck. It feels good to get rid of stuff, though.

I also want to go to Hobby Lobby but I'm sure it will be crazy on a Saturday. I mentioned it to my husband and asked if he would like to go, never dreaming that he actually would. So now I'm waiting on him to take a shower so "we" can go to Hobby Lobby.

Does he shower for Wal Mart or just Hobby Lobby? 😊

Well, "we" are back from our trip to Hobby Lobby. Honestly, I could have stayed in there another hour but all the sighing was getting on my nerves. We wasted $150 on more stuff that will be in the Goodwill bin in 6 months but it was on sale so how could we pass it up??

We did get some very pretty fall florals and a small stuffed scarecrow to take to MIL's grave. She absolutely loved to decorate for the seasons/holidays so as long as I am able I will make sure she has seasonal flowers.

I was in there a couple of years ago for the first time in many years. It seems that needlepoint has fallen out of favor. For all the crap they have in that store, there were either no needlepoint kits or maybe just a basic beginner's one, I can't recall which.

I haven't looked at needlepoint stuff in years, or any other "needle crafts" for that matter. If I had known you were interested I'd have swung by that section to see what's available. I mostly like the seasonal decor and floral stuff, and their sales are legendary. Right now CHRISTMAS stuff is 50% off and all the fall stuff (wreaths, florals, etc.) are 40% off. Oh... they do have a website so you might peruse it for needlepoint kits.

I don't need any of it but I love to look. Husband is a "get what you need and get out" guy, unless we are at Home Depot, Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply.

I like your husband. I'll stop in Tractor Supply even if I don't need anything just to look around for inspiration. I usually grab some connectors and hooks for the different size chains I have...they always come in handy.

A Harbor Freight opened in Charlottesville a few years ago right by the ALDI and Kroger I shop at, but I only go in if there's something from the current ad I want (although they put stuff by the checkouts so when you wait in line it's like candy bars to a kid.) I've got my money back from the membership I paid for...and I got a free Harbor Freight hat that's not too nerdish...but my Tractor Supply hat is way cooler.
