Tropical Plants

This is young dwarf ficus I bought last year ..it’s got bit of lean on it so I’ve got to keep turning it towards the light , it’s got much darker foliage than the large mature one I’ve had at least 36 years ( we was in Adelaide home for 16 years and been here 20 years )

I have a couple of fiddle-leaf fig trees. One is bushy and gorgeous; it sits next to the front door windows in the house. The other is tall and leggy, basically two stems with a cluster of leaves at the top. After reading a bit, I decided to cut the spindly one back severely and see if I can get it to bush out.

So yesterday I cut it practically in half. Now there are two "sticks" in the clay pot, about a foot tall. They are totally bare so we'll see if anything buds out or if I have just murdered the FLF plant.

I think you can still root the cuttings so you can have lots of spindly figs. They actually do bear if we have the patience

Our banana tree is up and growing, and we moved one of the new starts out to a sunny spot in the front yard, and also put elephant ears by the banana plants, so we should have them growing together (plus the cannas) in both the front and back yard this summer.
The little backyard swimming pool is just outside of the back door, too; and we enjoy being in the pool with the banana plants and the cannas around it, so we can pretend we are in the tropics.
