"School Bus", / "Camper", thread?

I bought a small motor home with a replaced motor years ago when they were cheap. I never got it insured or even licensed. Just kept it on the farm as a tiny home for middle challenged daughter. I am kind of sad I sold it when she moved out (she came back a few years later). They can be a tiny house, a she shed...whatever you want. Materials are not so cheap now but labor is even more expensive. ( We have a used lumber, scrapper, near here and a sawmill south of town) pallet wood is good if you coat it with termite prufe. You guys could do it yourselves and maybe make something on it if needed. But check with Marie to find out how to proceed. Happy wife; happy life. ;)

So true, Mary; happy wife happy life, like that one. :)

@Jake Smith Not sure if this mobile home counts as a camper, but would make a nice she shed for @Marie Mallory Much less trouble than restoring a bus. :sneaky:

I've never put one of those up, but watched a show once of them setting one up, in Alaska or somewhere snowing and cold as all get out; they had a wood stove and carpet for the floor, they wrapped several layers of animal skins around it. They were Indians of some tribe, and then they would pack it all up and move on to their next destination. Was pretty neat.

Like you say wouldn't be as hard as restoration of a bus into a camper; but once restoration is done, all you have to do is go, no real setting up to be done going, or after you get there.

Unless his wife is on board this project will neither drive nor fly.
I am actively disregarding SO’s RV searches. For the play dates he has somewhere in the US it makes financially no sense.

She is, or used to do tents well, but we've got up in age now, to where it can become too much of a task, "setting" everything up. Still leaning more toward a bus, maybe. She still says we don't go anywhere enough to have a bus.

OK, I did want to tell y'all a couple stories about the bus we had, I think was pretty "interesting". I'm not sure it was noticed here, but we traveled a lot in it, and everywhere we went all police, highway patrol and any law enforcement just waved like crazy at us. I wondered "why", until we were at Walmart and I went inside to get a few things, and noticed all the customers kept bunching up together and saying to each other; I wonder who they have in there, so I asked what are y'all talking about? They said the prison bus out there, we wonder who's in it. I told them, just my dogs and my wife. They said man that looks just like the prison busses here. Then I knew why cops always were waving.

Then in Georgia, we stopped at a Waffle house for coffee and I parked across the street from it in a field. I went to get coffee and the same thing happened, the cook and waitresses were bunched up together, and just a talking look, look, that female guard is walking the guard dogs; I asked what are y'all talking about? They said that the prison guard is walking the dogs; and I told them that's my wife and dogs. They said that's not a prison bus, I said no, they said "man", it looks just like a prison bus.

Also every old timer that saw the bus, when we were fueling it, or anywhere, had to come up and compliment how much they like that International bus. We put a lot of work into it, and we did have some great times traveling too. I began to care more for it after fixing it up, and it became a nice home away from home, dogs "adored" it too. :)

So it is decided, you will get a bus and make it look like a prison bus. Maybe handcuffs hanging from the rear view mirror. A grey uniform for you and black and white horizontal stripes for Marie. Paint, North State Pensioners Transport on the sides. Folks would read it as Prisoners. The prison looking bus would trick the readers mind. I just saw a show on this and even the cops would swear under oath, they saw a prison bus go by. :sneaky:

Sort of, the reason I had started thinking about it so much; is the pain Marie has been going through going on six months; I thought of how much she loved the bus, and how sad it makes her when she thinks about how she sold it. She said we were too old, especially to restore another from the ground up. She has a point; like all of you have. that's why I put it up here to get other opinions too. Still tossing it around, and figuring, if it's meant to be; it will be. :)

That day we took it to St. Augustine Beach when we drove out on beach everyone at the little bar at entrance to where you get on beach were staring at us thinking of no they will get stuck, but when we came back off beach later they screamed alright and gave us a standing ovation. It was dually in rear.:D

Like this, four tires instead of two. I think that's why we didn't get stuck like a lot of folks did. IMO :)

I used to do pony parties loading them onto my capped truck. But another guy set up a big school bus for fairs with ties next to every third or fourth window so when he loaded up 8 or so ponies it looked like they were riding to school as you only saw their heads from the withers up.
Marie and Jake can set up something like that for the dogs. ;)
