Random Political Discussion

At this point, I am going to predict that, in the upcoming federal races in Maine:
  • Susan Collins (R) will win reelection against Troy Jackson (D). She performed better than expected in a debate, and he, more predictably, did very poorly.
  • Former Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap (D) will beat former Maine Governor Paul LePage. Dunlap has mostly been known as a somewhat moderate Democrat, although he now supports the current socialist Democrat agenda wholeheartedly, while Paul LePage is a pompous ass who would probably vote with the Republicans, whatever the issue. He came off as an angry old man with a "Get off my lawn!" demeanor in his debate, while Dunlap remained calm. LePage made some good points, but the optics weren't good. District 2, while it is reliably red in presidential races, elected and reelected Jared Golden, a progressive Democrat whose positions were bad, from my POV, but whose optics were good (former military and ads at a gun range even while he votes for gun control). Voters tend to vote according to optics rather than positions or issues.

I got what looked like a personal letter today, so I opened it; I don't get a lot of letters anymore. It had a Maine return address for someone I've never heard of before, and it was about how important it was for me to vote for Matt Dunlap to represent Maine's 2nd District in the U.S. Congress, but it was postmarked from Oakland, California.

Since my husband is a registered Republican, his phone has been blowing up with text messages from dozens of "candidates." Our mailbox is also jammed with shiny mailers, so someone is spending massive $$$ on the mid-terms.

Speaking to the Texas Youth Summit, Tulsi gave a pretty good speech. She wouldn't be my first choice, largely because I worry about the Democrat part of it, but she's a Democrat I could vote for if she were on a general election ballot. If the choice were between her and DeSantis, I'd vote for her, and I don't hate DeSantis.

Good speech!

I don't understand your comment. Isn't Tulsi a Republican? What is she running for?

I saw that too, but I vote for the person not the party. I would vote for her.
So do I, but supporting Bernie in 2016 suggests that either she didn't know what she was doing politically or that her political positions then leaned toward socialism, and the latter would concern me because she served in the U.S. House of Representatives as a Congresswoman from Hawaii from 2013-2021, where she was preceded by Mazie Hirono and succeeded by Kai Kahele. Hawaii doesn't generally elect people whose positions are even close to what I would be looking for.

Actually, I see she left the Democrat Party in 2022 and became Independent, but didn't join the Republican Party until 2024.

I see she became a Republican in 2022. I know she's been supporting Republican positions, but thought she was still a Democrat. She endorsed Bernie in 2016, however, and was a candidate in the Democrat Primary in 2020. These are the things that would concern me somewhat.
There are still Democrats that want the best for our country. They just don't see what is happening in the swamp, the destruction turning us into a socialist country using our laws against us and they believe all the anti Trump foolishness.
Ilhan Omar's DC residence was raided at 6am and she was freaked by it. This after saying they can investigate her all they want.
When they did the same to Trump she said no one is above the law. Progressive Democrats don't see the irony. To actually get the search warrants shows they pretty much have enough dirt on her to get her out of here finally, even if it is just for marrying her brother to get him citizenship. (which is against the law.)

I think she finally saw what the Democrat party was becoming, standing up against Obama.
My brother thought I was voting for Trump because I didn't want a woman president. Not that there was just NO WAY I would vote for Kamala. He threw down the gauntlet and said What woman would I vote for as President and I said Tulsi Gabbard. I don't think he had even heard of her back then.

It looks like the paperwork certifiying Ilhan Omar was altered to make it appear that she is a naturalized US citizen, so it may come out that she is not a citizen after all, but has been wrongfully in our government for all of these years.
Apparently, she misrepresented her financiers, too, so she is also being investigated for that, and all of her family has been subpoenaed . Maybe congress will vote to take her out , and she can be prosecuted and then deported.

I get incessant emails with tempting subject lines. They all direct me into the body and when I click on them they are just requests for money. It has been going on for a long time. The Democratic requests are not about what they can do for me. They are almost all "Take Down Trump!"
Wonderful goal for the country. Take over the Congress to take down any of Trump's accomplishments. Don't thy see the waste?
