I've been known to assist a random Munchkin or two at my local Walmart. The top Overflow shelf is a real challenge. Those driving scooters have it worse.

One thing I've really noticed lately is that there are way more Order Pickers (for pickup and delivery orders) than I've ever seen. I mean double or triple the number...maybe even more. Their trolleys are huge and are beginning to get in the way. And the number of parking spaces reserved for pickup orders has been expanded. It's almost as though they don't want customers in the store.

If yo have Walmart+ for delivery, it helps to order those kinds of things. Anything that comes in a container or package of some kind is great for delivery, and you do not have to try and find it or get it off the shelf.
The main thing that I like to go to the store for is fresh produce, so I can pick it out myself.
 
I only occasionally buy groceries from Walmart and I don't want another "membership." I'm mostly referring to general merchandise being on the highest shelf, like pool chemicals, housewares or what have you. Last time I wanted a case of canning jars I had to wait around for at least 20 minutes for someone to come and get them down from the ceiling.

I have noticed on the Walmart website that they have moved away from "shipping" altogether and the choice is either pickup or delivery for most items. If I choose delivery, there is a fee plus I'm expected to tip the delivery driver. Not going to happen so I have stopped ordering from Walmart much anymore.

I hate that I can’t get anyone to help me get stuff off of the top shelf at Walmart. If I go looking for an employee, they usually say they don’t work in that department. :mad:But. I know how to get help now! 😁One day, there was no one around to help me get something off the top shelf. I looked around and seen one of those rolling ladders that the employees use to get to the top shelf. Well…..I rolled that puppy over to the shelf I wanted and climbed up to get my item. Employees came rounding the aisle telling me I can’t do that!! I said, well maybe someone needs to be in their department to help customers when they need help with items on the top shelf, or put the cheaper :poop: on the bottom so we can get to it. I got hateful looks. I gave one back!👻☺️ Whatever!

That is actually why I use a cane.

Oh I just saw your other post. Not sure getting canning jars down would be a good idea.

I moved to a rural area about 15 years ago, and am familiar with that behaviour. We also have agricultural equipment using the roads to go from field-to-field. I don't let it bother me. I'm still driving at a decent pace, and it beats walking or riding a horse. I figure that I might be that person one day, just trying to get to the grocery store and back in one piece.

I will say I feel a little different about that issue when I get on the interstate. They make right lanes for a reason.

I have a seven mile stretch between nowhere and nothing and 45 mph. Ok, I can live with this but not with soccer mom on the phone in her tank going 35 mph. There is no way to pass based on terrain and road markings. I want an air horn!!!

I got stuck behind an old Army green Toyota with antique tags heading towards the main road, about 3 miles from my house. It turned ahead of me on the main road, and I pulled off to dump my trash off at the recycling center. Then I got back on the main road to head into town and that same stupid slow car pulled in front of me exiting Tractor Supply. I followed it into town and did some shopping. I was driving home and turned off the main road for the last leg of my drive, and there that damned car was again right in front of me. I felt like I was in a Twilight Zone episode.

more like customers want to stay out of store..to which we are considering

Same here at our Walmart and Kroger stores. The fewer customers they have in the stores, the fewer employees they need. They have already expanded the self-check outs in the stores, and they have maybe two people working the regular checkout lanes. The other 13 or so lanes are closed. I have noticed they also only have one employee taking care of, or watching 6-8 of self-check outs.

Yeh, it's interesting that they seem to be pushing towards Pick Up and Delivery, yet expand the self-checkouts. My local Walmart is remodeling and they also expanded the number of self-checkouts. I prefer self-checkout wherever I shop anyway, so that's fine with me.

As an aside, Sam's Club (same ownership as Walmart) is migrating all of their stores to having no cashiers at all. If you want to shop there, you gotta install their app and use their automated checkout/payment process (I believe the technology scans all of the stuff in your cart en masse.) We'll see how that goes. It's an interesting tradeoff between alienating some of their older (in terms of age) customers and going with younger customers who may prefer that technology but who may not shop there in the first place. I guess Sam's Club knows what they're doing. Maybe they'll be some kind of marketing campaign following each conversion.
 
I think thay are keeping up with the times, although I do not like shopping at the stores and not having a cashier, or only one cashier line and you have to stand and wait.
The trend seems to be that things are now delivered, whether from a store or a restaurant, and being a delivery person can be a full time job for people now.
I can see that as being a good thing, since they can choose which delivery jobs they want to take and the hours they want to work, so I think it is good for the delivery people.

Walmart shoppers do not do a very good job sometimes. Last year, just about every single time I ordered fresh cherries, they brought me a bog of red or purple grapes instead, even though the shelf and the package both are labeled as to whether they are grapes or cherries.

The problem with today's delivery world is the character of those who do the job. Single women especially need to be wary of who has their address or who knocks on their door. It's the ideal job to legally do some reconnaissance. Not everyone uses their own employees, to the extent that might be of comfort.
