Pain Relief

Lois, I had 22 metal clamps from C-section of newborn, my third child. My oldest was almost 3 was loosed from child harness in front by kids in yard.
I snatched up 2week old from crib, ripped my incision wide open, had to lay down push muscles back inside me, tape it grabbed the 2 yr old up, cops found 'Houdini' the wondering toddler, I grabbed up the 1 yr old and newborn, put the wonderer on the lease that buckled in back. walked to bus stop, now bleeding profusely, bus driver said you need ambulance not a bus.I just ask him to get me downtown. After I screamed my baby, she was outside on lease as bus was moving on.He said how many babies you got, finally got to hospital, sewed up and alls ok.
I'm good at injury repairs. I've set my own broken toes, put them back in joint.Foot turned black, so er. ER doc's told Jake when he told them he tried to stop me, said "she did a good job".
Yet something like a pulled muscle makes me crazy!

Yeah; when she reset her toes me and all the animals took off; thinking that had to hurt. Then when I hurt myself she always says, here let me help, I tell her, get the hell away from me now.

DMSO is a substance that comes from pine trees, @Marie Mallory . I have used it since around the early 1970’s, maybe longer. It used to only be sold in farm stores for livestock, but was also used in the sports industry early-on, for players who were injured in sports and needed to get back into the game right away.

You can ingest it, but usually, it is just put onto the skin and goes in, and helps whatever is hurting. MSM is the same compound, but it comes in powder or pills, so you can swallow it easier.
I take MSM in a protein drink, about a half teaspoon, but it is not toxic, and many people take more than that, depending on the pain level and their own body response.

The DMSO comes in several; ways, plain, or as a lotion or cream, sometimes mixed with other substances, like aloe Vera. I just get the plain bottle, add some into a small spray bottle that is partly full of water, and spray it where it hurts. Do not rub it in. Make sure you wash before using it, because it carries anything on your skin through the skin.

There are several videos that go into great length about the healing Miracle of DMSO, but this one explains basically what all it can help with. It is used for patients with strokes, heart attacks, cancer treatment, and many other things besides just pain relief.

Kind of funny. I used both of them on horses but never thought of using them myself. till recently.

When I was a young teen visiting my friend her sister hurt her collar bone, the woman next door worked for a chiropractor so, 'unlike me who knew what I was doing' Patsey decided to work on it. Well all of us in the kitchen got to see poor Gail get her collar bone broken and it popped out right there in front of us all.

I read a paper about using chondroitin for joint pain. When we had livestock, glucosamine and chondroitin were constants for my wife since she hand-milked goats twice daily. I have begun taking a concoction of MSM, glucosamine, chondroitin, and D3 that is a liquid. No verdict from me as yet. We'll see what happens come summer and garden chores.

What does a person take for minor pain, or big pain, if we shouldn't take any NSAID's or Tylenol? The only pain reliever I remember taking in my youth, which was usually for menstrual cramps, was Bufferin aspirin; an NSAID. I don't really know anything about DMSO. I'll have to read up on it.

I will probably just go to our local cannabis dispensary and get me some topical cbd lotion for my achy thumb/wrist. Only problem with that is that it so damn expensive for just a smidgen of the stuff. I read on their website that there is a 20% discount for seniors at our local dispensary though. :D
I need to check it out, don't know where it is sold here in Florida,, but I know it is.

I take a goodly amount of wild lettuce. There are cautions if one is allergic. For cramps it is magnesium. Take supplements of mag glycinate. Not oxide. Often one needs more than is recommended on the bottle. Take until you become loose and then back off. It should be a daily mineral. You can harvest burdock root later in the season as the most bioavailable source. or it comes as a supplement too. Take as much as you need. It won't hurt you.

Marie, You are absolutely amazing.

It's age now that makes things like a pulled muscle someone crazy. However, a pulled muscle is nothing to sneeze at.

Has anyone tried the combination OTC pain pills? I see that Advil and Aleve both have pills that combine 125 Mg Ibuprofen and 250 Mg Acetaminophen per dose. I'm going to order the Advil ones and see how they work as a sub for Naproxen. Apparently these have been around for a few years now but I'm late to the party.

You can take the individual meds as well and sometimes that provides better coverage since ibuprofen is generally on an 8 hour cycle and acetaminophen is on a 6-hour cycle (although it can be moved to a 4-hour cycle). You can take the acetaminophen at noon, 6 PM and midnight, and the ibuprofen at noon, 8 PM and 4 AM (if needed). I am sure you are aware of prescription strength versus OTC strength, and you can vary those in combination as well as needed, especially with the NSAIDs as there really isn't a prescription-strength acetaminophen unless it has something included like an opioid.

I don't buy the combination pills, but I do combine the NSAIDs with acetaminophen when the pain become intolerable. You also know the hazards of NSAIDs in kidneys. I went into renal failure because of ibuprofen nephrosis.

Yes, I have done the "swapping pills" method but I hate trying to keep up with timing of taking pills. I don't need these very often but I'm going to see how they work for me. They have to be easier on my kidneys than Naproxen.

My hubby has taken glucosamine and chondroitin for years , @Don Alaska it was recommended by a joint doctor after he’d had his knees scraped / cleaned out as I call it …before the surgery he couldn’t kneel ..since he’s taken the glucosamine he’s knees are good …he would have been taking them 20+ years ….they apparently take time to work …

He used to take in my opinion far to many panadine forte ( I felt he was getting addicted to them )
  • Active Ingredients: Paracetamol (500mg) works as an analgesic and antipyretic (fever reducer), while Codeine (30mg) is an opioid analgesic that reduces pain messages to the brain. ( it’s a prescription only med )

) after his lower back fusion think I’ve mentioned before he now takes a hemp oil and very rarely takes any pain relief now days IMG_2606.jpeg

As for myself i very rarely take a couple of Panadol ….if I do it’s for my sore knee that gets irritated by the floor not being slippery enough
for dancing where the Saturday night dances are held , and it causes a bit of a spasm / pain
The best floors for dancing …are sprung wood floors …not vinyl stuck onto concrete as the Saturday night dances is
so I’ve got a sore knee this morning

Do you recommend a specific brand of Chondroitin for joint pain?
