"Marie", has a new primary care "Doctor" now

Thanks, Ken, I will show her this post, when she's able to be up, and thank you for being so kind to her, this is the hardest fight we've ever been in, and we've had quite a few over the years. In our area about care, I'm not anywhere near an expert, but as she gets worse with this I still think hospital is the right decision for her, since I've got to know most of staff and doctors there and because of all the visits she's made me take there even twice admitted. They even let me make my own coffee in cafeteria and no one there, I went back and told lady at check in desk, no one is there; can I pay you for the coffee, she said no you're good, go on back to Marie's room; everything is good.

I do keep questioning myself continuously if I'm doing the right thing here, and I always thought I was tough but this is whipping me like nothing ever has. So, I won't bug you; but will thank all of you, for being so kind to us.
Jake, you are not bugging. You are facing challenges you never anticipated that you cannot wrap around. You are not alone! You are also not alone with your self doubts, questioning why, looking for answers that are not there. One foot in front of the other, one step at a time, one chore at a time. Please give yourself a break on the front porch!

I’ve never spoken to our dear @Marie Mallory cause we live so far away , but we often had a chat on the old original forum , I remember when Marie was chatting about adopting her very spoilt fur kids ( dogs ) and showed photo of being in a boat
I’m guessing none of us have ever met in person but it’s sure breaking our hearts hearing of the suffering Marie is going through ..it’s just so unfair and cruel 😢
I’m sure you will read this to Marie for me @Jake Smith and plase give her a hug all the way from Australia xxx

Marie is reading y'all's post and telling me what to reply for her. She's also clicking likes to everyone. Even if the computer was in her lap, she still doesn't have the energy to type very much.
She said she appreciates all of you but can't sit up to type.
We understand and admire her fortitude. Thank you and the family for what you do for her.

Update on Marie, three nights ago she started hallucinating off medicine so we called ambulance and she is still in hospital three days later. They're keeping her and doctor told me he's is going to be monitoring her until no more hallucinating. Just wanted to let y'all know what's up with her. This is first time posting on here with my cell phone.

Sending hugs and prayers for you, Marie, and your family. It sounds like the hospital is the best place for Marie right now, and hoping the doctors can help Marie and will take good care of her.

Jake, she is in good hands. Please use this to give yourself a bit of a break.

Non drug induced hallucinating is a sign the subconscious mind is taking over and disassociating the physical pain from the mental. In the three times I have seen it in terminally ill folks, it seems to bring them great relief. They seemed to be in another dimension, one of no pain and happiness. I hope Marie finds this peace. Hugs!

I remember both of my parents having hallucinations. :(

My father did, too, but I always thought his were morphine-induced. When a patient is gravely ill and on pain medication, I wonder how they determine whether an hallucination is "drug induced".
I think it depends on the drugs they are taking. Some are known for causing hallucinations, others don't.

Morphine can cause such, especially in folks with kidney impairment. Since hallucinations in older folks are usually a result of kidney impairment or failure and most times the kidney failure is a result of taking a lot of medications, saying what causes the hallucinations is not always simple.

If one is on morphine, then switched to fentanyl and the hallucinations stop, then they might say the morphine caused the problem. The thing is that same amount of morphine in a young person without any kidney impairment, might just relieve the pain and not effect the brain so much as to cause hallucinations.

My understanding is the hallucinations are a result of the body being poisoned from kidney failure, thus a toxic presentation to the brain. That is the reason so many older folks have hallucinations. Recently a friend 77, had hallucinations while preparing for surgery and they thought it was because of the preparation fasting, but the nephrectomy doctor said it was from her kidneys shutting down and surgery was cancelled and she was hospitalized for renal failure. They got her back on track in two weeks.

So I guess one could say, her hallucinations were renal caused, but also correct to say her renal failure was from heavy drinking and prescription medications, thus it would be also correct to say her hallucinations were drug induced.

Before my mother passed away, we had to take her to the hospital with her heart failure, and her kidneys were shutting down. She kept asking me to please bring her home, but I knew that she needed to be in the hospital where she didn’t have to get up for bathroom or any other reason.
One night she was telling me that there was a Mexican family in the basement and she was helping to take care of them.

I knew that there was not anything like that happening at the hospital, but decided that my mom was already spending time with the Angels, and she was with them somewhere, in some basement , helping that little Mexican family.
The next morning, the hospital called to let me know that she had passed away in her sleep, so I believe that she went to help the angels and stayed there.

My sister and I took turns sleeping overnight in my dad's hospital room when he was failing. I remember my dad waking me up one night around 2 a.m., pointing in the corner and saying there was a cat in a wagon over there.

In the hours after my cancer surgery, my husband said I was saying nutty things, too. I don't remember any of it, though.

My mother would talk to all her brothers and ask them why they were sitting in chairs around her bed, whom all have been deceased for 20 plus years before she died. She had told them “they” should be out working.

My mother had died before my dad. When my dad was nearing the end, he would be laying in the bed, looking straight ahead at nothing, or so it seemed, having a conversation with my mom. My dad would also ask me if people were dancing downstairs in the basement. He said he heard music and people laughing even though the house was quiet. Both of my parents was on morphine toward the end.

This is Dwayne, Marie's son.
Jake wanted to give an update on Marie.
Delaudid made her hallucinate and she ended up in the ER. Was admitted to the hospital for 4 days and nights to monitor her until she's no longer hallucinating. Hospice rep. was brought in and we decided to go with Haven. She is now at the Haven facility. Since arriving here she has been sleeping. Catching up on the sleep she wasn't able to get while going through the hallucinations.

It sounds like this is where Marie will be for some time then, correct, even after the hallucinations have stopped ? It also seems like she must be at a good place where they can monitor her medication so that she does not something that gives her bad side effects , like happened with that medication.
Give her our love from everyone here at SOC and let her know we all love and miss her, and wish her the very best.

Thank you, Dwayne. We are all thinking of Marie and all your family. I hope Haven can keep her comfortable and her pain to a minimum. Hopefully Jake can get some rest, too. 🩷
