Hi. I live alone in a one-bedroom apartment in San Diego, CA. I love to read books: mainly horror, science fiction, non-fiction. Some people would say that I have too many. I follow the DASH diet, so I don't eat junk food though I've eaten a lot in the past.
I recently (25 August 2026) finished reading: "I Am Legend And Other Stories" by Richard Matheson. "I Am Legend" (1954) is a famous post-apocalyptic science-fiction novel and a very thought-provoking book. A war leads to environmental and human destruction. It ends on sad note.

There are a lot of readers on the forum, and at least one "what are you reading?" thread. I have not read "I Am Legend," but I have seen the 2007 movie loosely based on the book.

Happy to meet you, @Paul Couillard . I am presently a country girl in Wisconsin. I think we are all trying to eat more healthfully at our age although we may have eaten less well in the past.
I've seen "The Last Man On Earth" (1964) starring Vincent Price, and "The Omega Man" (1971) starring Charlton Heston, but I've not read the book. Nor have I seen the most recent film based on it. I used to read a ton of dystopian Sci Fi, but Matheson was never on my radar screen.

That's a good sized family, Liz. I come from a family of 6 kids spanning, 15 years.
You are right that many of us know each other, although we were all new members at one point. I believe this forum was started in 2015. I forget when I joined. A few years ago we had issues with our hosting service and lost the site. It was gone for awhile and Ken Anderson started it again I guess sometime last year. It's small enough that everyone gets to know each other pretty quickly.
Regarding being British...you'll find some connections here. My mother was a WW2 bride, so I have a handful of relatives across the pond. I believe there are a few others here who have similar connections. I know we have had a few members from England. Plus Kate Ellery is from Australia, and there are a couple of folks here from Canada. We also had an ex-pat living in Haiti. Interesting how the internet displaces connections on one level as it opens up others, huh?

As for the family some of the children are my stepchildren. But my family in general is vast. There must be hundreds of us scattered about.
Yes, the internet. We were just talking the other day about when families used to emigrate to places like Australia. Back in the day and no modern technology it was almost as if they had died .

I recently commented elsewhere that maybe 15 years after being stateside, my mother made friends who would used their ham radio to connect with a British ham who tied his radio into landlines so she could chat with her family for free. Absent that, they would have drifted further.
I recall the Care Packages her relatives used to send her in the late 50s/early 60s. Every once in a while she'd get candy and issues of The Mirror and The Sun. Back then they were pulp tomes. Interesting reading for a little kid, especially since they were less prudish than their American counterparts.
And I remember the air mail envelopes. They had red & blue stripes along the border, if I recall correctly.

Yes, the airmail letters were blue with red and darker blue around the edges .
I have a pile of them that I received from my grandad when I used to write to him.
Anyone would think he lived on the moon instead of literally less than 60 miles away.
Ah yes, the sun and mirror. Especially the sun , renowned for its page 3 content !
Although I would think a young child in the 50's or 60's was spared the blushes .
