How's the Weather Where You Are?

My Weather app on my phone says it’s 93° with it feels like a 96°. It sure feels hotter than that.

My horses are struggling a little bit, but they’re in the barn with two 46 inch barrel fans blowing on them. Granted both fans are blowing nothing but hot air but that’s better than no air. They’re drinking about 17 gallons of water at night and they’re eating like they should so I’m not too worried just yet, even though I am worried somewhat.

So what could you do, Connie? Water them down?

Can you use wet blankets? Please, I know next to nothing about keeping horses.

I spent the day at a waterpark and stayed quite comfortable except when I would have to stand on the stairs in the sun leading up to a ride. Luckily there was a breeze blowing and I had a "watershirt" on that cooled me as the water evaporated.

When I went back to my car in the parking lot, the inside temperature was 108 and the outside temperature was 98. It was brutal.

My sister used to put her horse's hooves into a bucket of cold water when it got overheated. I guess that's like us holding our wrists under a cool stream of water when we are hot?

I'm getting texts and emails with locations of "Cooling Centers" in the county. "Feels Like" temps of 107°F to 110°F through Sunday.
The same here. We check on neighbors and our circle at the end of the day. Extension cords long and heavy enough to go to several houses are in the garage. Mathilda, the generator, is always ready.
It is ugly out there but the garden is producing like crazy.
Garage is insulated as are garage doors and the little stand alone a/c does a great job.
Plenty of water for creatures in the back yard and on the front porch.
It will be like this until September/October.
Just think about the member of The Nations who were literally driven like cattle to Oklahoma and left with basically nothing.

@John Brunner , @Marie Miller, @Mary Robi , I had to be at my 6month checkup this morning, so I put a bucket of water with a towel soaking on the edge of it, in front of the the fan that’s only a few feet from them on the other side of the pipe rail. That actually seemed to do some good. Part of the towel was in the bucket so it stayed wet.

Hosing their chest and shoulders down is another way to cool them down. I have cold hosed hooves, but generally when the horse has warm hooves and is acting like it wants to founder.

I have been waiting until around 6:30 PM to feed them. They generally wander outside around 6:00 PM to graze a little and that gives me a chance to observe their movements. Thankfully they were moving as upbeat and fluid as they usually do, which is more than I can say for myself in this heat, lollol.

They have four 16 gallon water tubs — two under the overhang stay fairly cool. The two outside were hot enough to scald a child; that all got dumped and refilled.

I also have both of them on a digestive supplement and add about 20 ounces of water to their feed, it all helps to keep their insides working. The horse folks on here know that horses have the absolute worst digestive tract on the planet.

Today was the worst weather day yet and tomorrow’s not looking much better. My area is supposed to be locked into the high 90’s thru July 4th. If we ever see high 80’s again, it may be sweater time😂😂

My late sister always said that horses were like 2-year-olds who needed a nap. She said they were dedicated to eating anything that would make them sick. She sure loved them, though.

It's hot and muggy; pretty much typical Houston summer.
Do you guys spend a lot of time in your swimming pool in the hot summer weather ? we have the small pool in the back yard, and it is the best thing for me here with the hot summers and the humidity. I wish I lived somewhere that has a full sized swimming pool, but even being out and floating around helps a lot.

Not nearly as much as we used to. It's nice to be able to get into the pool when we want, or wearing whatever we want. A lot of times I wear shorts and a t-shirt instead of a bathing suit, just because I can. :ROFLMAO: By August the water is usually so tepid that it isn't even refreshing to get in, though.

Boy is that the truth 🤠🤠. They need to come with a lifetime supply of bubble wrap😂😂. I am always amazed at how they’ve done some that needs stitches and a tetanus shot, with nothing in sight that could have caused that need🥸

My temps hit 95 today, with a feels like of 97. Not as bad as yesterday.

Our Extreme Heat Warning keeps getting extended. Was supposed to be over yesterday. Then got extended to 8PM this evening. Now it's extended through 8PM Saturday.

100°F today (feels like 111°F)
103°F tomorrow (feels like 112°F)
101°F Saturday (feels like 107°F)

Next Monday thru Thursday are forecast to be below 90°F. I got an old house with no insulation, the a/c cannot keep up. But at least it keeps the edge off.

I hope that there are a lot of cooling stations on the DC mall Saturday for the 4th. People are already crowding it. I got no idea what they actually do out there for 3 days.

That was the time of the year we retreated onto the balcony and watched the beltway.
Cold foot bath, ice cream parlor, trip around the grocery store.
