How's the Weather Where You Are?

Sky full of smoke. The fires continue. Marks niece, the one we rent from lives 10 mi from us out in the prairies. Fire was basically in their back yard. One of their small dogs was killed by a fire truck,, they apologized. their second car is totaled. Their house full of ash and smoke. Luckily her husbands boss whom he works for and owns the houses sending crew to clean.
If you see the news reports from Ashland Ks, that is where we are. On the hwy 160 .
This fire has caused some to lose homes, some cattle and various other things, but all will tell you bad as it is here ..not as bad as the 2017 fire which was very critical and very costly - even lost a few lives. Two fire fighters here were injured, but being treated in Wichita .

I can identify with the terror that is wildfire. We have a fire season every spring/summer and wildfire is my biggest fear even more than earthquakes. I have known so many here who have lost everything to fire. I am fortunate to have a small lake in the backyard and a 2-inch fire pump to fight with should I need to do so. We have only had to evacuate once and we had livestock and a dog team then. We thought we has lost our home and barn, but we got a message over the radio from the state forester that our home had been saved. We all breathed a sigh of relief! We now have an old travel trailer that I call "The Ark" that will be our shelter should we be evacuated again and we have no livestock nor children to worry about now.

Sorry you are having to deal with this, G. 💕 Especially in light of your other concerns lately. How is Mark after his second cataract surgery? I hope your back is feeling better. Sending you a big hug. Y'all stay safe. (How ironic that you live in "Ash"land.).

Hedi, I sure hope things turn around for you and family. We have wildfires going on here in Florida too, so far none close to us.

At 3 am today 9-10 trucks headed to another fire. All fireman are back now and preparing and cleaning the trucks for the next wave of fires. Hi today was 44. It has been so warm, but now we have Snow heard our way. ..Gimme cricket, so odd. Wont stick been too warm.
I am freezing again, but bowl of stew and half cup of hot chocolate feeling warmer !

It has gotten a bit milder this past week with temps over the freezing mark during the day..
Not much snow either, but we have had quite a load this winter..
Excellent for the week-end which we are having an ice fishing tournament.. actually we have one every week-end..
They are calling for colder for next week..

It is 65 and sunshine here today, but rain maybe overnight. Supposed to make it to 70 again, so wonderful spring weather. Our first daffodil is blooming !
Then we are cold again until mid-week next week, according to the forecast.

Down to 0 F. this morning and clear. It is supposed to get colder over the weekend and warm a bit with snow next week. We got 5 inches of snow while we were gone and another 2 inches yesterday. Hopefully things will warm a bit in March.

Here’s the weather for today in Runcorn, Halton, United Kingdom (Friday 20 February 2026):

Today
  • Expect rain and drizzle with cloudy conditions. Highs around 9 °C and lows about 8 °C. Light winds and damp conditions through the day.
This aligns with forecast details from local weather services reporting cloudy skies with a chance of showers and cool temperatures typical for late winter in Runcorn.

I went out and ran my errands yesterday in shorts and a t-shirt. It was good to get some sun on my pasty white legs. I'm in shorts and t-shirt again today. I'm enjoying it thoroughly but I'm sure I'll remember the cold days with fond memory come spring and summer when it's hotter 'n hell again.

Another sunny 85 F day here in Central Florida, but temps are going to drop for the next few days with overnight lows in the mid 30s. I brought my lady friend's orchids inside today just to be safe. Anything below 50 is not good for them, and one of them is blooming.

I only have to cut back or maybe replace one more shrub that was damaged by the severe cold a few weeks ago. My neighbor's palm tree fronds are totally brown.
