Healing as we grow older

Thank you Marie, this morning I almost went to er. The er's here are full of people with these viruses going around.

You’ve got a stomach bug. And while a few different germs could be to blame, chances are it’s the dreaded norovirus, the most common cause of these symptoms. Each year, norovirus sickens about 20 million Americans and causes around 900 deaths, mostly among adults 65 and older.

If you are worried about catching something from the ER or doctor's office, I would wear a mask and gloves. Please don't suffer with your pain. :(

I'll keep doing what online doctors say for one more day, then I'll take my chance at er the next day.
So far this kind of strain is said to cause 3 to 6 months to heal. It's been 3 months now. And I've had it with the locked inside and extreme pain at times.
Marie you sound like a dear friend of mine. For two years she has been hibernating with her dog. Everything is Covid this Covid that. She lost a lot of weight and recently had a front tooth fall out. She will not see a doctor because her body will heal itself. She is 70 and was a holy terror running a huge admin department in three languages. Where did she go? I really miss her but call her once a week.

The pain in tailbone this a.m. was 'astronomical! I took Tylenol and applied heat. Hurt all night long so I got up at 5'30 am.
It moves from tailbone to knees, calves, thighs and makes me sick at my stomach.
I have has worse pain but it didn't last for months.
It's making me mean.
Marie, this pain spreading like it is seems to me like you have something else going on besides just muscle or ligament pain from the squats. Pain that moves like that sounds more like what gout does, which is a type of arthritis that often hits the foot or toe, but can move around to joints anywhere on the body.
You should not need to go to the ER, you can just go to your regular doctor or one of those emergency clinics, where there won’t be as many people.

I have moving pain as well @Marie Mallory. Docs don't seem to be able to help me. That is why I got involved with the patches. I wish you good luck with it. Like @Yvonne Smith mentioned, I first thought it could be gout, but it has effectively been ruled out. A little bit of pain in the knee today from doing fence repair in the deep snow yesterday, but nothing I cannot handle. Last year's moving pain was much worse than this year, and last year it seemed to be cured by a course of Augmentin. This year is is much more localized and appears to be going away as the days get longer.

Don, we went online soon as you suggested the Salonpas patches [ wearing one now],ordered them and I used for 3 days now, they do help.Thanks. Amazon sent us extra Salonpas and Ice Hot, some other kind.
We called them told them we didn't order the other 2 products, they said just keep it, no charge.

I'll google Augmentin and check that out too. From what I read about pulling muscle it can las as long as a year, usually 3 to 6 months.

Not suggesting that as a remedy for everyone, or anyone else actually. It is a prescription antibiotic that was given for an eye infection but all the other pains vanished as well. I had streptococcal arthritis when in high school, was hospitalized to cure and it returned in milder form the following year. so perhaps this was a repeat of that very serious issue. If it was, the docs here were not smart enough to diagnose it. The strep arthritis was a type of rheumatic fever and I was told at the time I would suffer from rheumatic heart disease in later years. That never happened.

I would think that perhaps you have a torn ligament or tendon. Have you ever taken any antibiotic whose name ended in "oxacin" @Marie Mallory? Ciprofloxacin is the most commonly prescribed drug of the fluoroquinolones and they are know to cause muscle, ligament and tendon issues, especially in people over 60 years. Anyway, a torn tendon, ligament or muscle are usually treated by immobilization to allow the tissue to repair itself.

On the note of “immobilization”, adhesive K-tape has been a huge help on that front. I normally get it from Amazon in rolls of 10” strips and use the stuff religiously on areas that I injure more than I intended and depending on the exercise, on areas that “might” get injured without it.
Depending on the length of the striip, Kinesiology Tape can help immobilize an area or act to add extra support for muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Also, K-Tape aids in healing by lifting the skin off of any given muscle structure to help with circulation and facia release,
Note: There are rolls of strips and “designer” strips that are precut for elbows, knees, shoulders etc but are hugely expensive. The plain strips are a lot cheaper and can be cut to imitate the designer strips or like I do, use an extra strip to cris-cross around the elbow, shoulder etc.

Also, for folks who refuse to sit down and let things heal up properly, it’s a good idea to invest in a set of TRX straps or even a knock-off.
Note: There’s a hefty price for actual TRX straps but there are a couple of knock-off’s on Amazon that to me, work just as well.
So, what do they help with? In short, body weight exercises with a twist.
An example: In some exercises such as body weight squats, one can use the handles to help determine how much weight a person wants to have on their legs whilst at the same time, working the chest, shoulders and arms.

There are dozens of YouTube channels that feature help with using K-Tape and TRX straps so I won’t use up a lot of bandwidth by featuring one here.

@Marie Mallory
I had great success getting a steroid shot in my 🫏, specifically the tailbone. Let me explain how that worked.

My tailbone was painful and nothing helped. 😭 I went to the orthopedic doctor :devilish: that is syringe happy with steroids. He gave a me shot in the tailbone area that had me making promises to Jesus 🙏 that I may or may not have kept. That is a discussion for another time, perhaps one I will have with St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. 😇

The way these tail shots work, is they inflict excruciating pain on you, that last for three days, making you appreciate the pain you had before the visit. After the three days of torture, I applied Voltatren not knowing if it might inflict more pain. I felt I had nothing to lose. I was surprised that within 30 minutes the pain was lower level. A few more applications and my tail was pain free and has been ever since.

If you try Voltaren gel, Just be careful not to get it down to far. Avoid area 51! ;)

Marie, you are treating symptoms with on line layman research.

Not that I know of.
Don, It's been over 3 months now, so I'm trying to rest, then slowly walk, add patches you advised and they do help ,heat pad, elevation and half a Tylenol 2 times a day.I sit on doughnut cushion too.

It might be that trying some MSM might help you to heal faster, @Marie Mallory . Pain medication does not do anything to actually stop whatever is causing the pain or help you to heal from it, pain medication just blocks your feeling of the pain so that you are not hurting as much. The MSM will actually help your body to heal and work better, and you can simply add it to what you are already doing.

It is not something like a pain medication that is going to block the pain, but it will work with your muscles and help them to heal, especially if you take it every day with the protein supplement drink.
I mix the whey protein powder with milk, MSM, creatine, and blend it and then have some first thing in the morning, keep it in the fridge and have some off and on during the day.
It only cost $12 for the container of MSM, and it will last for months, and within a week you should notice the difference if it is going to help you get better.
