Guilty Pleasures Food Favorites and Snacks

I'm not familiar with Lawson's, Connie, but it sounds like it would be good on a baked potato. I used to love onion dip when I was a kid.
The only onion dip we ever had when I was a kid was Lipton Onion Soup Mix (dry) and cream cheese. I don't think we ever used sour cream or bought a pre-made dip. As an adult, I don't think I've ever made a cream cheese-based dip.

There are i no ice cream places in SW Ks unless you drive 100 miles to Doge City. I think they have a DQ
These are the only eating places here.. Pizza..opens at 5 pm.. small restaurant, open most days. food is decent.
The closest place to get artificial ice cream in downtown grocery store here.
Sooo, we make our own ice cream. Unfortunately, our ice cream is becoming known in the town, a long with Marks cookies.
If we get help around here for anything, no money, ice cream please ! Sigh

Lawsons stores were mostly in Ohio and just inside bordering states. Their onion chip dip sales beat out the under age beer sales😂😂

I am surprised Circle K up that way stocks it, but it shows that people still love it.❤️❤️

It is great on a baked potato — I did that too🤠🤠.

I never buy or make dips unless we're having people over. My husband doesn't like sour-cream based stuff (gasp) so he isn't interested unless it's bean dip or salsa. That means I'd have to eat it all by myself... how awful. :D

I used to keep raw veggies around for snacking, and make either a homemade Horseradish/Bacon dip or a Pistachio dip made with cottage cheese as the base. The pistachio dip was always a pretty pink...it never occurred to me to buy non-dyed nuts.

I made “creamsicle ice cream” in the Ninja Creami, and it was delicious ! I used 2 fresh oranges with a little bit of the peel, and some cottage cheese to thicken it with a dab of almond milk and chia seeds, and blended everything up and froze it overnight. It came out really close to those creamsicles that are vanilla ice cream inside and orange sherbet on the coating.

Have you tried any new foods lately, or have some old favorites that you buy time after time? I don't mean basic staple foods, but something that you just enjoy.

Recently @Hedi Mitchell posted about Bimbo Toasted Bread, which I thought sounded kind of weird but I found some at HEB and I have eaten almost an entire package in a week. That stuff is seriously good... very crunchy and light. I have been having a fried egg on a piece of the toast for lunch, or some mashed avocado, pimento cheese, or tuna salad. It's a great "vessel" to carry a bunch of different savory spreads. So thanks for mentioning that, G!

Today in Walmart I was on the pickle aisle and noticed some small jars of bruscetta topping. I believe they had artichoke, red pepper, and tomato flavors. I picked up a jar of the artichoke to try and I tried some on a piece of the Bimbo toast... fantastic! If you like artichokes, pick up a little jar. It's not expensive and is a tasty snack, and would be good on crackers.

What kind of 'guilty pleasures' food do you buy?
I love artichokes, Beth. What is Bimbo toast perchance?

It's kind of hard to explain, Lois. It's small slices of bread that have been toasted or dried out until light and crunchy. Similar to melba toast but not nearly as dense. I believe Bimbo is an ethnic (Mexican) brand so it may not be available in your area. They sell several food products in Texas.

As an FYI, Lois...Walmart carries Bimbo brand bread and hot dog/burger buns (it's made in Mexico.) They stock it in my Walmart here in rural Virginia, and sell their other snack products online.

I made a batch of spiced pecans this morning, trying to keep more fiber in my diet. These were done on the stove top rather than baked in the oven. As is my habit, I soak nuts overnight and then dehydrate them for 24 hours. I'm glad I bought a full-sized Excalibur dehydrator so I can do large batches of stuff.

Another snack I've made (but not in a while) is to put spoonfuls of flavored yogurt on a non-stick sheet that's meant for dehydrators, and then run then through the drying process for 4-6 hours. They're pretty good snacks and easy to make...sort of a taffy consistency. Recommended temps are all over the place, but 110°F-115°F seems to be the ideal range to drive out the moisture and not kill the bacteria.

Have any of you ever bought stuff from Nuts.com? I bought some pecans and walnuts from them some time ago. I forget which one is close to the Walmart in-store price and which is more expensive, but without comparing them side-by-side (or having a lab to compare nutrients) I could not really say that the Nuts.com ones were noticeably better.
