Gardening

I almost forgot — every year ramps (wild onions) and wild garlic come up in the pasture. Some of my horses would eat them, some would not. They are edible.

This year was a bumper crop. My brother pulled the biggest ones up. Some he ate here, the last batch he carried home because he doesn’t have them at either place in NE Ohio.

I am too lazy to go out and pull them up🫣🫣
I remember ramps when I lived in North Carolina, along with ginseng and creasy greens:)

Do y'all have armadillos up there? Those dang things tear up our lawn looking for grubs.
In Maine, yes, but our possums and armadillos are largely confined to the southern and coastal regions. The culprits here would be skunks. On my cameras, I see at least one skunk every night, maybe more, but I haven't seen more than one of them in a camera view at the same time.

It was bound to happen... the raccoons have discovered my cucumbers. 🦝🥒🤬 I found three large cukes with the middles eaten out on the lower section of plants (not climbing the trellis). I suppose it's no big deal because I am already sick of cucumbers, so I'll probably be pulling the vines out in a week or so.

I made 2 quarts of pickles today so that's enough of that, and I have some cukes bagged up for my husband to take over to my SIL tomorrow. My neighbors are avoiding me, plus they are grumbling that I didn't plant tomatoes this year. 😆

Going to try again some green beans and zucchini in the garden in about a month .

...Idk what happened last year , just a few green beans and just a few zucchini that took forever to grow . Will keep you updated ☺️
I can grow zucchini’s with big fat leaves …look nice and healthy …..but never produce any “ fruit “ mainly because they produce mainly male flowers …so I gave up and save what limited room I have for producing other veggies ….

It’s coming into cold weather plants now , I’m not doing any more regarding pulling out old veggies today …..

I’ve got a order for a sports logos I’ve got , my friend wants a hand towel and mug rugs made for her sons birthday with the Sydney swans footy team logo

Consult your Ag service or some knowledgeable nursery with your zucchini issues @Kate Ellery. You could just try another variety or go to heirloom types. You can grow pumpkins so you should certainly be able to grow zucchini. Male flowers always come first, but females should follow. Eat the males if you get too many. Batter fried is the most common way and they can even be stuffed.
