Guilty Pleasures Food Favorites and Snacks

Have any of you ever bought stuff from Nuts.com? I bought some pecans and walnuts from them some time ago. I forget which one is close to the Walmart in-store price and which is more expensive, but without comparing them side-by-side (or having a lab to compare nutrients) I could not really say that the Nuts.com ones were noticeably better.
We used to buy from Nuts.com and were satisfied with their product. We no longer order there, but I don't know why. BTW, I love ice cream but cheese cake not so much. Wife used to make a special cheesecake for Christmas every year, and I ate it for many decades. She was destroyed when I finally revealed that I wasn't that fond of it and only ate it so she wouldn't feel bad.

I use to buy the big bags of walnuts from Nuts.com quite a bit. The walnuts use to be so fresh and tasty. Ever since COVID, the quality went down. I also remember they jacked up the price to $33.00, when they were about $18.00 normally. They lowered the price pretty quick after complaints. I continued to buy few more bags of walnuts from them but, after a few bags, I stopped. It seemed like every bag I got, half of the bag had very dried out walnuts in it. Since there was no returns on food items anymore, I changed to Amazon Walnuts. They have been pretty fresh, thus far. The price has been slowly sneaking up on them too; like no one would notice.

I've commented before that I lived around the corner from a place called The Cheesecake Factory. They make cheesecakes for regional restaurants and had a retail counter. I was eating a 2# cheesecake every week, all by myself. I always put fresh fruit on it. Kiwi was my favorite.

Regarding Nuts, com: they sell English walnuts grown in the U.S. (most likely in California.) Walmart's pecans say "Product of the United States and Mexico," while their walnuts are silent on country of origin. I just looked and the walnuts are cheaper on Nuts.com than they are at Walmart ($5/# vs $10/#), but you gotta pay shipping. Pecans are more expensive there ($14.50/# vs $13/#), but are grown in Georgia.

As an aside (and to figure out where Walmart might be getting their walnuts), here are the top walnut-producing countries:

I guess we could make a reasonable assumption, huh?

I've not looked at Amazon's prices. I know I had to hit a $50 order minimum on Nuts.com to get free shipping from Nuts.com, but don't recall if there was a Handling fee that made shipping prohibitively expensive so you really had no choice but to buy a lot. I believe there is.

Have you noticed the Country of Origin on the Amazon nuts?

The last bag of Amazon Walnuts I bought, said they came from California on the front of the bag.

Also, I am sorry. I thought it was Nut.Com that I bought all those walnuts from. But after going back to take a second look, it was "I'm A Nut" that I bought all those walnuts from.

I bought mine last January and the quality was fine. It's just tough for me to put together a $50 order. I added Macadamia nuts and pumpkin seeds to try them with some spice coating, but it was a waste of money. I guess I could just buy walnuts and pecans and freeze what I won't use immediately.

First World Problems, huh?

I buy nuts from Costco. I see that their 3 lb bag of American walnuts is $16.49 online. Here's their selection... https://www.costco.com/s?keyword=nuts.

If you are not a Costco member, you can still order as a "guest" from their website with a 5% upcharge. Shipping is free with $75 purchase.
For some reason, walnuts on Nuts.com are cheap...$5/#, which is 1/2 of Walmart's price. Pecans are about 10% higher than Walmart but are from Georgia and not "maybe Mexico, too."

These stupid kidney stones limit my options on this stuff. I love almonds (and used to eat a lot of them), but the oxalate level is very high. Pecans and walnuts are not low, but they're not sky-high...and soaking is supposed to remediate some of it.

I used to eat popcorn maybe 2-3 times during the winter months, but lately I've been making it several times a week. Part of the reason is to get more fiber, and the other part is I've stopped eating both a large lunch and a large dinner. I've generally migrated to a largish meal in the late afternoon, and then popcorn at night to take the edge off.

I bought some movie theater powdered flavoring that's really good, but I only use 1/2 the recommended amount because it has so much daggone salt in it. I've also read tips & tricks online and have good popcorn down to a fine science.

I had a weird craving tonight for a banana sandwich. For the uninitiated, the recipe is two slices of good fresh bread, an overload of real mayonnaise, and a sliced banana. I had the sandwich with a cup of coffee and now I'm too full and mad at my lack of self-control. (So much for that "low potassium" thing.).
I'm a firm believer in yielding to food cravings. There's a reason for the hankering.

Regarding banana sandwiches...I have never had a banana & peanut butter sandwich, or a banana-anything sandwich. It seems "wrong." (Reminds me of a friend in elementary school who always brought a peanut butter & pickle sandwich for lunch.)

Well, you should at least try it. Some people grill the sandwich in a little butter kind of like a grilled cheese, or simply toast the bread. It's similar to a tomato sandwich in that it's surprisingly good. The mayo adds a tang and the banana adds a bit of sweetness, which satisfies a sweet tooth.

My husband makes a concoction of peanut butter and honey and spreads that on his banana sandwich in the place of mayonnaise. That's going too far in my opinion. :D

Sorry to take your husbands side, but the PB and honey on toasted bread, with banana sandwiched in, is how eat it. For a tomato sandwich, I toast the bread, smash up a few garlic cloves, spread them on the bread, add on tomato salt it, then slap on the top, and enjoy.

This all reminds me of the Bermuda onion sandwiches my father used to eat. He put butter and salt & pepper on white bread with a thick slice of onion.
I love a sauteed onion sandwich. Lots of sauteed, till soft, Walla Walla sweet onions on local made, toasted, potato buttermilk bread. I don't have it often, because slicing and sautéing onions is just too cheffy and involved cooking.
