When you say "All", do you mean "Any"? I'm not sure that I can, either, using regular Member tools.

Go to the Messages page where all your DMs are listed. Click the little box in the middle of the page next to the ones you want to remove. At the bottom of the page, select "Choose Action," then "Leave Direct Messages", and finally click on "GO" then "Save." It will prompt you that the selected messages will be removed from the list.
I don't think there's a way to permanently delete the messages, but this removes them from the message list.

What I would like this forum to be-- is by invitation only, or a small fee to join. Don't judge me... but
would think that would cut out a lot of rif raff and clear the way who want to enjoy themselves here,

That would have been nice to maintain the feel of the old forum. Unfortunately as we all die off it would turn into an echo chamber.
