What Are You Doing Today?

Today I went in for a 25# block of salt for the sheep. There weren't any. Then I saw 50#ers which I used to get. I settled for a 5lb this trip.

In all this heat, I cowed down and asked my insurance agent’s husband to pick up my feed at tractor supply because he’s in there all the time anyway.

Part of what he brought me home were (3) 50 pound salt blocks and he set them in the front loader of the tractor. They’re still in the front loader because the weather hadn’t cooled down enough just yet for me to get them set out. I will be able to slide them off without too much problem into their salt block holders. I can’t pick upward, but I can let them go downward without dropping them.

And the other Chiropractor, at the doctors office wonders why I am so “tense “all the time. I told him he should come to the barn and I’d show him why.🙄🙄

When I was a half-wild little farm kid, I'd gallop around the pasture on my stick horse and stop off at the salt lick to get a few slurps.

Nope. I'd share that salt lick with the livestock.

This is EAA season in Oshkosh and the planes overflow to surrounding towns. A few years back I could have sworn they were buzzing my livestock. Lots of buzzing up in the sky this week. Although I have not gone to the actual event I have seen the acres and acres of planes in fields around here. It is pretty exciting. I am amazed at the WWII bombers. You can check out youtube vids even from this year.

Arrival - you can walk away from, landing - you can use the aircraft again.

Finish 15 pounds of pulled pork, get hot sauces, pickles and cookies packaged for tomorrow morning. Mount Cottone is not going away on its own.

We waited around for animal control come this morning. We had a young raccoon laying on the ground under a power pole in front of our house this morning. My husband thought it was dead and was heading out the door to get a shovel to remove it from our yard. It was half dead but it was still moving. We had to call animal control to come remove it. They came scooped it up with their special scoop. 😀Animal control said the raccoon was fried and they were surprised it didn’t kill him. I guess it just knocked the little guy off the pole to the ground.

I also did some laundry and ran to the grocery store to pick up a few things today. I am about done for the day.

I did my grocery store walk, this morning, but since I posted about it in a new thread, titled Con Artist, I will spare you the details here.

Nothing planned today other than watching some TV and trying to find something interesting on the internet.

Tomorrow is a big lawn day and my morning assessment finds that I must use the weed eater before mowing, Triple digits again tomorrow, so I will get an early start. That doesn't promote good will with the young party neighbors, but better than having a heat stroke.

What DID I do today. I know I did the usual. But then walked around the scary dry yards. Even the plantain died in what used to be grass. I had been meaning to take out an ash tree that was growing right next to our deck (too close to the house). I have been 'meaning to' for years but I figured any longer and the roots would be through our foundation. I had to do a lot of trimming just to get to it. Tomorrow I will have to take out all the brush but we still can't burn because of the drought. So much dead stuff I will probably have to remove if it does not come back if we ever get some rain, but with no where to go with it, I will leave it all standing till fall.

Big yard day today, starting in 2 hours. Very warm out there with overcast high ceiling forest and range fire smoke. Lower air still good quality. I really need to edge as grass around my fences is getting high. I have to wear long pants and long sleeves when edging, because something always gets kicked up and if wearing shorts, my legs look like I survived a shotgun blast. It is simply to hot to wear jeans and long sleeves. 76 F degrees at 0500 hours.

Anyway, keeping this short due to wonky eye.

I'm about to take my car to Safelite to have the windshield replaced. I'll just drop it off and my husband will pick me up because I don't want to sit there for hours.

On the way home I want to stop at HEB and grab a couple of chuck roasts for the freezer since they are on sale... and you know I cannot pass up a beef sale. :D.

Had a couple of things to take to my Lady Friend at Assisted Living, but when I got there I was told that she had fallen in the bathroom and was taken to the emergency room. Not sure if she will be kept overnight, or what. Hope she's okay.

Update - just got a call from the hospital - she is being transferred to a larger hospital in Orlando that has a trauma center- she has a major injury to her neck.

We are in our 3-day holiday from the cold rain. It hit almost 70 F. yester (69) so perhaps it will get that warm again today. We sat on the patio yesterday evening, so maybe we will be able to do it again tonight. Mowed some yesterday, and worked on the driveway with the box blades. Changed sparkplugs on my old truck. More mowing, and garden work scheduled for today. Wife is currently babysitting grandsons, so I am on my own for a bit.

Oh, that's awful, Hoot. Is Orlando a long way for you to travel? I hope she can make a full recovery and feel better soon.
