"Tony" Thought Journal 3.0

My family will be heading home today from South Carolina they spend two days looking at houses. My wife tells me there's one she really liked. our bedroom would be right next to another room they term as an office. She says I could have it for my stereo, and all the electronic goodies I like to play with. I was supposed to have space for these things when we moved into the present house after the fire never got an inch of space.

Got an email from Pine Tree that my German Butterball potatoes should be delivered today. I believe I have enough soil set aside I know I have the pots so I'm all ready to plant. I watched the video on YouTube last night there's a fella that grows his potatoes in cardboard boxes that you would get from deliveries. It turns out pretty well for him.

I made myself eggs for breakfast, they came out almost perfect. Because my back doesn't cooperate I don't make eggs on the stove in a frying pan. when I cook I hover over the food until it's done unless it's something like a stew or that type of cooking. Because of the pain of standing I cook my eggs in the microwave, I started doing this years ago. I can cook sunny side up, scrambled, and poached. I time it is closest as possible that the eggs are finished when the toast is done in the toaster oven.

When my wife is home she usually will cook eggs once in awhile for me, however she likes to overcook them she worries about whatever kind of bacteria you can get from undercooked eggs. I remember when I was a kid my father would make maltes with raw eggs for me and my brother.

I want to do some cleaning and straightening up around here today for when my wife returns tomorrow.

@Tony Page If you are moving, will you take your plants with you? Many times I wish I had kept all my old stereo, hi fi, guitar amps, and radio stuff. Then I realize it would just be collecting dust. I once had about 300 LP albums I sold on eBay and a Gates radio station console and turntable.

I used to have amps from the late 40s early 50s which I no longer have all my amps today are from the mid-90s. I got a good penny for my Harman Kardon citation Amp and Preamp, I had two pairs. When I work for Harman Kardon I got a hand shake from the designer Stuart Hegman. For me the citation was one of the best power amplifiers and preamps ever made.
I still have a tube signal generator they used to advertise in popular Electronics it was a seven-in-one generator. My father purchased it for me in the late 50's. I got rid of all my resistors, capacitors, Transformers, coils all the parts you needed to build something. I was sorry I got rid of my tube caddy though. My first turntable was a Garrard with a ceramic cartridge not very good but for a 15-year-old it was Heaven. Later I got an AR with a magnetic cartridge and I had a transcription table too and I can't remember the name of it.
Truthfully I don't know what buried in my barn in the back. I believe there might be a match pair or a few match pairs of Mallory output tubes. They were for my citation amplifiers.

I still have close to a thousand albums, I see today's turntables have Bluetooth I was thinking of getting one so I can play these records.
Great memories

I didn't answer your original question. The only plants I can think of that we might take with us would be some house plants.
Anything that's outdoor will stay.

How soon would you be moving ? Are you still going to plant your garden if you are moving this summer, or maybe wait until fall to move after most of the garden is done with ?
It sounds like you have a lot of work ahead to go through everything in the house and garage and see what to take and what to rehome before you move.

I am mostly glad that I live here in Alabama now, and do not have all of the snow and freezing winter weather that we have in north Idaho, but I still miss being there, and probably always will.
Even though it is nowhere near as cold here in the winter months, everything is dreary and brown for all that time. At least the snow in Idaho is white a beautiful to look at and covers up everything that is dead for the winter.

Then, in the summer, things are pretty and green again, but there is so much humidity that even in the early mornings before it gets hot, you have perspiration all over if you go outside, so it is hard to get in any yard work during those months.
For me, it is.
Bobby takes the heat better than i do, so he spends more time outside in the summer.
I try to do what ever is important before the heat of the day, and then if I am outside, it is to be in the swimming pool and keep cooled down.

Your family are visiting the South in about the very best time of year. It is spring and everything is up and booming , but the heat of summer and humidity are not bad yet.

We like to be out of here before school starts next September. We haven't found a house yet so it all depends on what we find how much room we have but we are going to start cleaning out selling some stuff preparing for a move.

I've been looking into clinics that special in Cancer Care. I would like to be close to one that I feel fits me and my wife perfect. My daughter wants to stay close to her cousin's our niece and nephews. Fortunately my niece in law is a pediatrician and our nephew is a sports medicine doctor.

We would be leaving a lot of family and friends on Long Island it's sad.
If the cost of living wasn't so high on Long Island we probably would just stay where we are, but you have to do what's necessary sometimes it's not easy.

Just received my delivery from Pine Tree they substituted the German Butterball potato with Yukon Gold. I'm a little disappointed I wanted to see what they look like and what they tasted like they claim they had a bad crop this year.

I I mentioned in an earlier post that I watched the YouTube video where they use the cardboard box to plant potatoes. They also mentioned a company that they use for their fertilizer and for their potatoes it's called fedco I looked them up they look interesting.

I also wanted to mention that the TV show I've been watching you might be interested in seeing I always find something in every show that I didn't know or I can use it's called the family plot it's a half hour show with a lot of information.

Wow, I would be disappointed in the potato starts, too. Yukon Gold spuds are widely available but I've never even heard of the German Butterball. Sorry, Tony.

USA made EL 34s and 6L6s are worth some money these days. Also any of the preamp tubes 12AX7 and 12AU7. I changed out all my X's and U's with 12AT7s since I had about 100 of them from a military lot, all unused. I got a really good price for my X's and U's when I sold out all my electronics stuff. I always rewired my finals as triodes to eliminate the bias and screen supply, and the 12AT7s gave more drive which worked out well.

The match pair that I have left is probably kt88 or it's counterpart which I can't remember the number.

I had two Scotts amps one from 1949 and one for I belief 52 they were given to me by my uncle I think they had 6L6 or 6v6 output tubes, my memory is not good. These amps had no cabinet just a chassis. I made my first stereo system using these amps.

My dad had a 1955 Scott hi fi mono amp. I think it had EL34s. Some collector paid my mom big money for it after he died. My first good stereo was a Harmon Kardon that had no cover or cabinet. I regret selling the McIntosh system I had. I had a matched pair of KT88s that I got in a box at a swap meet. The guy that used to come through town and advertise to buy audio tubes, paid me $200 for them. I found out he was selling them to a guy in Japan for $500. It seems like back in the 1990s that Japanese collectors wanted USA made audio and tubes. I sold my Collins 32V2 and 75A2 radio set to a guy in Japan. I couldn't believe what he paid to have it shipped.

Vintage audio equipment still goes for a big price especially tube models, or hybrids. When tube stereos start disappearing audio files were not happy with the sound. Some manufacturers built hybrids where the output section was all tubes the rest was solid state. They supposedly had the same sound as the all tube models.

My two Scotts amps were mono, they didn't have stereo back when they were made I them put together for my first stereo system. I built the speaker systems out of cheap speakers I could find on Cortlandt Street and what I could remove from consoled TVs that I was throwing out because they weren't worth fixing. I must say the sound was amazing and I give myself a pat on the back. We were having a party on a back patio and I was blasting my stereo when my neighbor came over with her father and he played with Benny Goodman Orchestra when he came into the driveway before he could see that it was records and tapes he said what do you got a live band back there I said no that's just my stereo. My system couldn't compare to what my rich uncle system someday I'll talk about his system if you want to talk about amazing systems his was the best I ever heard.
