"Tony" Thought Journal 3.0

The topic in a journal or diary-type thread is whatever the member who created it wants it to be. This is Tony's thread; if he didn't want the horse stuff in his thread, he could ask me to move them, otherwise, I don't police anyone's journal threads. Except in jest, no one was saying otherwise.
Thank you Ken, I misread the post I think I'm just getting old and cranky.

Sorry,
Tony

@Tony Page -- I'm sorry you are offended over the "off topic" discussion, but I believe it's just a simple misunderstanding. I think your Diary was mentioned in the off-topic discussion in a teasing manner. Diaries are just journals with whatever the Diary owner wants to share about their life.

You certainly don't have a "topic" when sharing stories about your own life. Some people don't want a lot of participation on their Diary; they want it to be more of a journal of sorts. Then those of us like you and me don't care who participates; it makes the discussion more fun.

We are all just conversing with each other and some conversations take temporary detours. I don't think anyone minds.

Anyway, please reconsider and come back to SOC. You are a big part of this place and we all enjoy sharing your life. I apologize if I played any part in the misunderstanding.
You're correct I misread it sorry

It is your journal Tony. Write what you want. I enjoy reading it all. I am like you and don't belong to any clubs, churches, or political party that require members to follow a creed. SOC isn't a club in my opinion. Post about whatever you want. I also enjoy photos. Forget about off topic, because you are the one that established the topic. Tony's Thought Journal covers it all!
I misunderstood the post but I'm okay now.

I want to apologize to all my friends. On one hand I want to be with all the friends I made on SOC that I love and enjoy, on the other I act like a spoiled child "it's my football if I can't play I'm taking it and I'm going home."

This is my thought journal so I did some deep soul and heart searching. ❤️

The chat room is a lot of words, well I wasn't leaving a paper and pen, or typewriter I was leaving my friends, the very people that I hurt when they hurt, I laugh when they laugh. I left the friends that I worry about that I'm saying the right thing to comfort them when they're having troubles.

There are many posts I miss or come late to the game, because I'm terrible with navigating, if it doesn't show up as an alert I'll probably never find it on my own.

let me repeat I am sorry, It was a short hiatus, I am back I will start by catching up with my alerts, then checking out some new post.

You are not alone in that, Tony. Saying the right thing to comfort others is a gift I certainly don't have. Passing along condolences seems cold and scripted and saying I'm sorry, reminds me of my Grandma saying, "What are you sorry about?" I am 75 and have seen a lot of good folks suffer while, sorry excuses for human existence, flourish. What do you say to those good folks suffering that is comforting?

Forget the "club" in this forums name, because it doesn't indicate any creed or line of thinking you have to adhere. Just carry on "as you were soldier" hahaha!

Glad you are back @Tony Page. You contribute a lot to the forum and are greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know the difference between an deer and an antelope?

The main difference is deer have antlers that's they shed, antelope have a horn similar to a goat and it's permanent. There are other differences like antelope are faster, deer have a larger global range. I'm sure there are more differences that I don't remember or know.

I think I've mentioned in Prior post that I had a love for Animals throughout my life, and that I visited Trefflich's the world's largest Pet Shop many times.

Another one of my heroes was Frank Buck I must have read his book "bring em back alive" 20 times. He also made movies (serials), I watched many of them. I believe he still has a zoo in Texas.

As a kid the idea of starting a business that involve animals was always in the back of my mind. I thought maybe I should own a pet shop when I got older. Then an idea popped in my head from reading a book it was called Animals Of The World. I found an animal in it, I thought it would make a great pet. I was 15 years old but I did have a lot of Dreams.

I figured I can get Trefflich's to capture and import them. The animal was the Royal Antelope the world's smallest antelope, I thought it would make a perfect pet.

It stood approximately 10 inches high at the shoulder, weight up to 5 lb, had short horns, and had a reddish color. Not much bigger than a house cat. I wanted to raise them and sell them for pets. Went to the library to research them and also to find out what Government agency would have to approve importing them. They lived in herds which meant I would need some land and have to have I believe it was one male to every five females to start my business.

A nice lady that worked at the library, help me look up what government agency I had to contact to approve importing wild animals.

With pencil and paper to take notes I called the phone number for the Government agency. After the usual run around I finally connected to somebody who can answer my questions about the legality of importing these antelopes. I was dealt a blow that stopped my momentum like I hit a brick wall. This fellow was very knowledgeable, he rattled off things like you're going to need a license, plus you're going to have to keep them in quarantine for a number of months because of hoof and mouth disease it would have to be checked by a vet every so often, and on and on.

Of course I didn't have the money to do all that my idea came to a end. I was disappointed maybe because it was more I wanted one for myself I really like them.

I was 15 and pretty ambitious I did find a rare colored hamsters that I got from a breeder in Texas. I got a male and two females back then we called them cream today I think they call them honey bear I'm not sure. But I was able to have a few litters and sell the pups to a local pet store. When I first brought them to the pet shop the owner wanted more because he had never seen that color before. I could only give him what I had I probably should have ordered more mating pairs.

Over the years I've had many exotic pets and some domestic animals.
This is a list I made of the animals I had / have.

I've had a few exotic pets like Prairie Dogs, Flying Squirrels, Cotton Top Tamarin (Marmoset), Iguana grew to 3ft, Horn Toad, Caiman (South American Alligator), Chameleon (Anole), and assortment of turtles and frogs, Ribbon Snakes, European Goldfinch, Orange Canary and a Mule Canary, as well as pets Hamsters, Rabbits, Mice, Chickens(hens egg layers), Ducks, Quail, Cats, Dogs.

Of course I didn't have these all at once, it was spread out over a number of years.

I have a long list of animals I wanted as a pet but never did get including Skunk, Fox, Raccoon, Pygmy Marmoset, Pygmy Owl, and Galago.

I remember with a friend of mine to help me we put together a zoo in my uncle's backyard he had a long bench for us to use. We lined up my tanks and cages with things like hamsters, rabbits, lizards the big attraction was a white fly.

We put signs up on the stoop in the front of the house and charged I don't remember maybe a nickel or a dime to see the zoo with the white fly. To get to the zoo you had to walk through the front door through the hallway to the back door. My uncle's apartment building was attached to the building where I lived so we didn't have to carry my pet's too far.

The white fly 🪰 was a fly we caught and doused with flour.

It was a lot of work to make less than a dollar but it was fun.

This morning I went for a haircut I had let it grow too long, I kept tripping over it.haha

I asked the barber to use a #3 clipper attachment, which cuts the hair 3/8 of an inch in length.

When I walked into the barbershop, the barber motioned me to a chair, I said to myself good there'll be no wait. There was a senior sitting in one of the chairs, I guess saw that I was hunched over walking with a cane, who rushed over to me and assisted me to the chair and stored my cane, I thanked him and noticed he was wearing a fireman's shirt. I asked him if he wanted to go first he said no I'm waiting for different Barber. I found out he was a retired fireman. Another customer and him were chatting within earshot, I heard him say he was involved in 9/11. I immediately got to like this man by the way he cared for me and by the conversations he was having and by his involvement in 9/11.

When I was finished with the haircut I joked I just lost 20 lb that should make my wife happy.
We all chuckled. As I was getting off the chair he jumped up and help me to the register to pay all the while saying don't slip on the hair on the floor then he helped me to the front door. As I was exiting I thank him for his service and for 9/11, his eyes teared up and he nodded. I walked to my car thinking this is the kind of person that makes me be proud to be an American. It was a short but meaningful encounter.

That's a wonderful story. Since I started walking with a cane I've had so many encounters with nice people like your 9/11 man, it's as if they just suddenly appear when you need them. One time in the supermarket I looked down and saw my shoe was untied. I just stood their looking at it for a few seconds, wondering what to do, since I have to sit down to tie my shoes. Suddenly a teenage girl strode up, squatted down, tied my shoe, popped back up, and was on her way almost before I could thank her. I tear up just thinking about her.

I and my wife just got back from an appointment I had at MSK for my 6 month check up for prostate cancer. I met with a nurse practitioner and I was very surprised at her knowledge of my case being I got two different oncologists one from MSK'S, The other from New York Cancer and Blood. She was terrific explaining the different symptoms and how they were caused either by radiation or the hormone pill. She said the radiation is causing irritation in my prostate urinary area which will last for at least another 6 months. My symptoms for urinary discomfort and bowel problems are all originating from this irritation.

My other symptoms fatigue, body tingling, chills, hot flashes and foggy headed are all associated with the hormone pill.

She told me she was pregnant I joked don't look at me I was home watching a ball game. She laughed. 😅

We got on to one of my favorite subjects gardening and then chickens. She said she wants to do more with that she would love to have chickens apparently she had them when she was young and she wants to teach her son all about gardening. I enjoyed my appointment especially with somebody that has a liking for the same things I do. She will be out for my next appointment so she scheduling a phone appointment for 6 months down the line with another nurse practitioner.

I wish her well, and left.

MSK'S is about 10 miles from my home. There is a grocery store in that area (North Shore Farms) that I like. It's got stock and pre-made foods I don't see locally. Me and the wife decided to shop there. We picked up dinner (I'll post in what's for supper thread) for tonight lots of other stuff.

After grocery shopping we drove to another shopping center across the street to one of my favorite pizza restaurant for lunch. That was enjoyable.

All in all it was a good morning.

The most important thing that I came away with this morning is the pains and weird stuff I'm feeling are normal. That a relief.
