Pain Relief

I have some arthritis problems.. I take a melixicom 7.5 once daily and that helps..
If the pain suddenly gets bad, I make my own marijuana ointment which works wonders when rubbed at the pain area...
Marijuana is perfectly legal here in Canada and Ontario to grow for personal use which I do... I grow 2 male plants every summer and it makes about 12L of the ointment which both my wife and myself use.. My wife has a bad lower back and this is the only thing that helps.. Better than any drug taken orally.........
We don't ingest the marijuana, only apply it as an ointment....................

I have arthritis in my fingers, not debilitating yet, fortunately, given that typing is what I do for a living and as a good part of what I do when I'm not working. For a while, I went through several things to relive the arthritis pain, such as CBD oil and a bunch of other stuff that I don't remember anymore. Some of it seemed to work for a while, but then they'd quit working, so I haven't taken anything for it lately. Some days, they hurt a lot, and other days, I can barely notice it's there.

My wife has osteoarthritis in her hands, and she is an avid quilter and pianist. She has several ointments that she uses, and I myself have found helpful. Especially helpful for me is an arnica comfrey rub. She also uses an arnica menthol rub. I don't have arthritis, but I do sometimes get cramping in my left hand (only the left for some unknown reason) and I get nearly instant relief from the arnica comfrey mixture. Arnica is a short-term relief, but it seems that once the pain cycle is broken, everything resolves.

Amazon has the arnica-menthol balm she uses here. They don't carry the arnica comfrey rub she (and I) use, but they have several similar concoctions.

I take 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper in warm water every morning. It really keeps inflammation down so my joints feel comfortable. Capsaicin is great for pain relief in general, no side effects.

I use Absorbine Veterinary Liniment for topical pain relief. Very effective for muscle or tendon injuries/strain, bruising, ect. It's made for horses but it works great for people.

Of course everyone is different and what works well for one person may not be very effective for someone else.

I take cayenne , a little each day, and some in food also. I try to add cayenne and sometimes turmeric into foods where it can fit in. The Absorbine is great stuff, too !
I have used that as well as DMSO for many many years.

Since I am not supposed to take any of the NSAID’s because of my heart, and it also causes liver and kidney damage; I have to try and find what is causing the pain and stop it from the roots, and not just mask it with a painkiller.
I also take MSM just about every day, and that helps with muscles and joint pain, and is even beneficial for my heart, so I don’t have to worry about taking it.

Yvonne, what is DMSO and MSM?
I found one, is trhis the one you use?

DMSO takes the pain of arthritis away almost immediately, but it scares me, since I don't know what else it might be doing, so I haven't used it in a long time.
For a long time I thought DMSO didn't work for me at all, but I have since discovered through trial-and-error that it helps my knee pain if it isn't bad. It does seem to relieve low grade pain some, but it isn't instantaneous for me. Maybe the Voltaren would work on the mild pain too, but I haven't tried that yet. In any case, I can deal with the mild pain with nothing, but it is nice to be more comfortable.

DMSO is a substance that comes from pine trees, @Marie Mallory . I have used it since around the early 1970’s, maybe longer. It used to only be sold in farm stores for livestock, but was also used in the sports industry early-on, for players who were injured in sports and needed to get back into the game right away.

You can ingest it, but usually, it is just put onto the skin and goes in, and helps whatever is hurting. MSM is the same compound, but it comes in powder or pills, so you can swallow it easier.
I take MSM in a protein drink, about a half teaspoon, but it is not toxic, and many people take more than that, depending on the pain level and their own body response.

The DMSO comes in several; ways, plain, or as a lotion or cream, sometimes mixed with other substances, like aloe Vera. I just get the plain bottle, add some into a small spray bottle that is partly full of water, and spray it where it hurts. Do not rub it in. Make sure you wash before using it, because it carries anything on your skin through the skin.

There are several videos that go into great length about the healing Miracle of DMSO, but this one explains basically what all it can help with. It is used for patients with strokes, heart attacks, cancer treatment, and many other things besides just pain relief.

I called my PCP that whatever she gave me to bridge to my ortho appointment for my hip will not work. The side effects are not acceptable and I worked ortho around SO’s shooting schedule. OK, it hurts. Old age is not for sissies!

Thank you for info.I'll have to check this out later. I need to do something while I still can. Use it or lose it is so true!

NSAIDs are a no-no for me as they shut my kidney's down quickly. Luckily, my doctor picked that up right away. As for Tylenol, I would never touch it as it is so toxic to one's liver.

I am fortunate that I am able to tolerate high levels of pain. I think my body produces its own ability to handle it. I've even awakened during major surgery, and merely yelped, "ow." My doctors nearly died of coronaries. I throw off many pain meds and anesthesia, or react adversely to a narcotic. I went into immediate respiratory crisis when I was given morphine post operatively, years ago. Never again.

Last night was one of those nights of SIDE EFFECTS BE DAMNED!I would've taken arsenic to get out of the pain.I still can't believe something simple as exercise could make life this unbearable.
Just to think, I thought I was the big pain tolerate one.
Come to find out, I'm one of the biggest sisquads here when it comes to "real" pain in the ass and everywhere else from the hips down!

What does a person take for minor pain, or big pain, if we shouldn't take any NSAID's or Tylenol? The only pain reliever I remember taking in my youth, which was usually for menstrual cramps, was Bufferin aspirin; an NSAID. I don't really know anything about DMSO. I'll have to read up on it.

I will probably just go to our local cannabis dispensary and get me some topical cbd lotion for my achy thumb/wrist. Only problem with that is that it so damn expensive for just a smidgen of the stuff. I read on their website that there is a 20% discount for seniors at our local dispensary though. :D

I believe an occasional NSAID or Tylenol for minor pain is not a big deal for most people. Also, @Hedi Mitchell had a good point, that anyone taking NSAIDS should be sure to drink lots of water to help "flush" it through the kidneys. A person with good kidney function does not need to be concerned about an occasional NSAID.

Lois, I had 22 metal clamps from C-section of newborn, my third child. My oldest was almost 3 was loosed from child harness in front by kids in yard.
I snatched up 2week old from crib, ripped my incision wide open, had to lay down push muscles back inside me, tape it grabbed the 2 yr old up, cops found 'Houdini' the wondering toddler, I grabbed up the 1 yr old and newborn, put the wonderer on the lease that buckled in back. walked to bus stop, now bleeding profusely, bus driver said you need ambulance not a bus.I just ask him to get me downtown. After I screamed my baby, she was outside on lease as bus was moving on.He said how many babies you got, finally got to hospital, sewed up and alls ok.
I'm good at injury repairs. I've set my own broken toes, put them back in joint.Foot turned black, so er. ER doc's told Jake when he told them he tried to stop me, said "she did a good job".
Yet something like a pulled muscle makes me crazy!
