I bought a simple, one-blade, "Old Timer" folding knife for about $10, because, although I own several knives of various sizes and shapes, some of them quite expensive, I don't ordinarily walk around with a knife strapped onto my belt, yet I do often come across situations where having a knife handy would be helpful, even it's simply cutting plastic ties on something I bought somewhere, opening a package, or cutting something that I might have tied too tightly. This is a knife that I am more likely to be carrying in my pocket, and it's small enough not to freak anyone out in the unlikely event that someone would have a reason to go through my pockets. I have a beautiful, multi-purpose Swiss knife that is also a folding knife of about the same length, but it's too thick and bulky to carry around on a regular basis. Plus, the Old Timer knife is cheap enough that I wouldn't be overly disappointed if I were to lose it.
