What Are You Doing Today?

Spent mid morning to afternoon with my middle son working on my Jeep. He bought a new battery and installed it then had to return it because the wires were not long enough to reach the posts. The Jeep didn't start with the second battery. So that's one possibility down and two to go (starter and alternator). My son contacted a friend who had worked on car repair in the past and explained what was going on and he was pretty sure of the starter being the problem. I was going to have it towed but my son said that Kevin wanted to help to save on the cost. Of course I had to question his ability which is how I found out that Kevin had worked at a car dealership as a mechanic and my son said that he has come through for him every time with no problems. The part has been ordered and estimated delivery date is Thursday.
Von, wish you put up your picture ...miss seeing that lovely face of yours:)

Thanks everyone for your concern. She has a son back in Ohio, and in 2024 we tried having her live with him. Lasted 2 weeks, and now he will not answer any calls from her or from me. At this point she isn't much of a threat, but she is a drain on my patience. We have been together for over 8 years, and she has always needed a lot of physical support - meal prep, laundry, etc - and the last few years have seen a slow but steady mental decline. You can talk to her and have a perfectly fine conversation, but the tell-tale signs are there - paranoia, lack of self awareness, etc. I don't think there is much I can do to speed up the legal process
Here you must do everything just so or the eviction process won't go through. First is a registered letter...

Hoot, have you visited the senior place yet?
Mumsy is in a similar situation plus extreme medical issues.

yes I did. It is a small (100 unit) local facility, and they only do independent living. No assisted or memory care, which keeps costs down. It was built in the 70s (I think) but is in good shape. Everything is on one level, and the units have a small patio.

The down side to "independent living" is that they do not give any sort of medical support. If you fall down, they will call 9-1-1 to help you up, but they are not allowed to help you themselves. You have to manage your own meds, etc. I consider it a small apartment with room service every day. It doesn't seem like it would be a good fit for someone with extreme medical issues.

Checked my bank account. SSA had deposited a bit over $300 there. My 1st payment is in April according to the mailing I got the other day.

Perhaps it's just a "probe" to verify direct-deposit info? I'll have to see if they pull it back or deduct it from April.
If that was the case, Medicare would have to treat it as an overpayment, and they can take only 10% of your monthly benefit amount. At least in Arizona and California anyway. Unless of course they changed things in that regard, which is always possible.

I started early this morning doing yard work in the back. It was a little chilly at first but gradually warmed up. I had a lot of broken limbs from the windstorm yesterday so I grabbed the rake. The weather is predicted to get just as windy as yesterday and a 87 percent of rain later so I took a break to decide what I wanted to get done the most. I'm reclaiming my back yard so I started stripping two of my flower beds down to the dirt. Lots of leaves and still more broken limbs. Fortunately, only toppled yard decor there wasn't any real damage from the windstorm.

I'm paying for it now, so sore.

Ditto! My morning in the yard was almost identical. Weather was also identical. Sore muscles ... yes! Thanks for post, Von, it saved my sore fingers from more exertion. :sneaky:

I've been paying Medicare premiums quarterly, so I was ahead of the game.

I think this was a refund of overpayment I made, to bring things into alignment with their withholding from my monthly SS payments. But for now I'll leave it alone, watch for a mailing, and in a week or so check for an online message on the SSA web site.

Got two items in the mail. New Medicare card (same as the older one) "as someone requested on your behalf" = i.e. SSA. Derr. Second item from SSA says this is a payment for funds owed to me for Feb 2026, and it has income tax withheld.

The first just sounds clunky, some generic "start benefits, get a Medicare card requested" deal.

The other seems weird but might be because my birth date isn't the 1st of the month? Well I'll just let that calliope wheeze until it stops. SSA seems t be a roach motel of leftist featherbedding and incompetence.

So basically an apartment complex with older tenants. You have to expand your search radius. Are you tied into town? What are things you enjoy?

well, no. They do provide other non-medical services, such as transportation, laundry, life alerts, etc, and it is specifically a senior independent living facility. I'm intentionally not interested in facilities that also serve memory care patients. I've been in those and no thanks.

So if I understood your other post, you are looking for a place for her but you're staying in your current place? I hope you can get things sorted out, Hoot.

I've probably not been very clear. She belongs in either a skilled nursing facility, assisted living, or memory care facility. The professionals will need to determine which one. Of course, she doesn't think that is necessary, which is why I have to use the legal system to get it done. Once she is settled, then I will need to sell my current house, which may take a year, and then I will move into an independent living facility. It's messy.

Life can get pretty messy sometimes. :( Hope things work out for you.

Please @Hoot Crawford make sure you lock up any large knives as well ..but of course where do you stop when it comes to “ weapons “

I’m on a crafty type Aussie run forum, one of the moderators had a son with a severe mental illness so they hid lots of items and he the son called the police cause his father refused to give them back …..so a man who’s treating psychiatrist since he was a teenager took him off meds …as he was given the green light as being well enough to do so …..police asked for his knife collection be given back to him …..the day he was given them back ..he went to a huge busy shopping centre and killed 5 mostly young women and I male ….stabbed several others including a baby being carried by one of the ladies that was killed …..he was latter cornered by a police women and shot dead ….in the shopping centre he was 40
