That is not entirely accurate. I wouldn't trust what a CEO of an Oil Company has to say about the price of gas. The reality of the situation is that if anything causes the economy to flinch, even it turns out to make no real difference, they consider that a legitimate excuse to raise prices. Then there are times when prices just seem to go up automatically. Holidays are the big one, but any time people are going to be driving a lot or more than usual, they raise prices.I saw a statement from the CEO of Chevron that the California legislature will be adding another $1.50 a gallon gas tax. They are trying to push everyone there away from petroleum.
However, something I have noticed is that if the price of gas goes up for no apparent reason, people drive less. Which within days forces the greedy SOB's to lower prices again.
