What's for supper?

If you are using prefab such as Aldi then one package makes three generous helpings.
Yeh, I have a rough time measuring out pasta. I always seem to make enough for 2 meals. At least I can count out the tortellini. I've not looked at what I have left, but I've had 2 meals from it and have at least 1-2 more. It's a good deal.

I won't have much to report on the Supper thread for a while; I'm going to try the Rice Diet to see if it helps my kidneys. Mostly plain rice and fresh fruit and vegetables. No salt... arrrrrrgh.
Is the idea to avoid protein? I was gonna suggest trying TVP to avoid meat, but I just took a look and it's got 2x the protein per oz. of chicken and beef. It has no salt on its own, but a random brand might be flavored with it.

Yes, it's low protein and very low salt. No salt in the rice, no canned vegetables, etc. I'm also avoiding high potassium foods.

Well, that sucks all the joy out of eating. Between protein and potassium, that leaves a pretty short list...or small portions.
It starts out very restrictive but then foods are slowly added over time. I think it is always a low sodium/low protein plan but not as restrictive after a couple of weeks. I'd rather try something like this than take more medicine. I have followup blood work in 2 weeks.

Reminds me of the 6 months I went on a meatless diet when I was first diagnosed with high cholesterol. I pounded the numbers down but (a) got bored with the limited choices, and (b) really missed cooking a variety of stuff. My cooking abilities gave me options within the narrow foundation of rice-based, legume-based and tvp-based foods, but it was boring eating and boring prep. I am ashamed to admit that I consciously opted for variety rather than take the lifelong boring path that worked without statins. And in hindsight, lots of those foods (especially legumes and potatoes) were high in oxalate, which likely contributed to my later onset of kidney stones. Had I been aware of that parallel path I was on, my limited options would have been even more limited.

There is no way I'm ever going to be meatless; I'm a carnivore but I figure I can do anything for a couple of weeks. I know I need to make dietary changes but it's really hard to do.
