I haven't read it ( got put off with all the ad comments) but I would sincerely hope that no-one on here is in the middle of divorce.
I went through one when I was a young woman , as many do , but I would find it quite sad to think of senior citizens splitting up after possibly decades together.

Just recently, a house in my neighborhood went up for sale. One of my neighbors that knows the couple that lived in that house had said that they were getting a divorce. Both had moved out of the house already and an auction was taking place on everything that was left behind. The woman was 80 years old and the man was 76. 😲 They have lived in that house as long as I have lived in this area, which is about 32 or so years. I’m not sure how long they were married, but my neighbor said he thought they had been married 50 years, at least. They couldn’t tolerate each other another minute.

What I have seen in a few couples I know who were fifty or older is that one of them might go on a health kick, losing weight and putting themselves in shape, supposedly because, like me, they became concerned about dying young. Then, after one of them has lost weight and starting feeling good about him/herself, the next thing you know, they're divorcing the other.

It's sad really . I'm guessing they should probably have split up a lot sooner but just put up with the situation ( like my parents did !).

I think it's quite common when they're around the 50 ish age or a wee bit younger.
But at least they might still have a good chance of a nice life with someone else , or on their own.
I married again when I was 44 and we're still together.
We muddle along ok .

Exactly what I experienced in my marriage 42 years ago. I had enough of being overweight since birth & at 30, & 405 lbs, I decided to research healthier eating & lifestyle & acknowledge my junk food addiction. My wife was also overweight, but to a lessor extent. As soon as I started my journey, she did everything she could to sabotage my efforts - dumping her food into my plate, saying, "I'm dying for a pizza," "Get us some Rocky Road ice cream," etc. And when I'd go for my daily walk, she'd say, "Don't leave; I'm not feeling well; I have a terrible headache."
I said, "Take some aspirin."
She said, "What if it's something serious; I could die while you're not here."
I had enough by then. I said, "I'll call the coroner when I get back."

The last straw was on Valentine's day. She handed me a heart-shaped box of candy - a couple of hours after I told her to stop offering me sweets.
I said, "I'm determined to improve my health; I'm not going to live like this any longer & if I have to lose you to lose weight, so be it. If you really cared about me, you would encourage me. It looks like you're more secure with an unattractive mate who will have a short life, and a life insurance payout."
I divorced her soon after. And have weighed 170 lbs. ever since. She died at 66.

I have known several who have lost large amounts of weight, and of course this changes you, so then they want a divorce.
We had dep discussion before we got married. I told him 36 years ago, if I have to track you down, and search to find you- I do not need you. He asked about if he strayed. Would you divorce me?
What you do in your mind,is between you and the Lord. You act out on that- there are so many things worse than divorce😁
He has been locked on to me ever since.🥰
