What Are You Doing Today?

8 of the celebrants for my wife's surprise birthday party have gone home to Washington and San Diego. The 5 still here from Omaha are staying elsewhere but are supposed to move in here this afternoon. New pain of unknown etiology today.

I hope your wife had a nice surprise birthday party. Maybe your new pain is from the stress of having a house full of people and partying too much. I know I am always achy and tired after any family or holiday get-togethers.

Could not find two loaves of ham/bagel everything bread yesterday or this morning. When I had a batch going this afternoon the missing ones peaked over the basket for bread in the freezer. Sending a text to neighbors:)

I did win $100 in the Florida Lottery when I cashed in my ticket today. I figure I'm only several thousand down....LOL.

There's only one reason I still play and that's because I've played the same number (my late husband's birthday and my birthday) since the first lotto drawing sometime in the 1980's (?). That's the only number I play and I figure if I miss a drawing, that'll be the week it comes up.

I'll get 2-3 months worth at a time and then not even check on them until it's time to cash in.

Poor investment.....but there I am....

Well, I drove down to feed and water the critters. Hubby is home from the hospital and has sepsis so is on a pic line for daily drip of anti biotics that we have to get at the hospital every day. This goes on for 6 weeks along with other doctor visits. Basically those are my activities every day for those weeks along with basic household chores. No wait. Today was our semi annual brunch with old friends at the Oasis. Sadly hubby would not go because he did not want to have the third degree by one of our friends.

Sorry about your husband, Mary. I didn't know he had been unwell and I hope he has an easy recovery. Sepsis is scary.

Cheated.

I avoid processed snacks and salt now, and barely add any salt when cooking much less after cooking.

But when I got groceries there was a deep-discount on red and green dyed tortilla chips. I bought 2 bags.

I take Rotel tomatoes (or fresh when I have 'em) and onions and add some canned chili no-beans and cheddar cheese. Heat and stir as a dip. Sparingly, it's pretty tasty.

And I found that taking a very small bowl and putting some of the chips in there can be quite a tasty snack. To my palette these are now sweet and salty and satisfying. No, still not great for you, but it sure takes the edge off any hunger!

You need some salt in your diet to keep the sodium/potassium pumps working in your cells. ;) The trick is to balance the sodium and potassium. We take quite a bit of potassium here to take down swelling which is an indicator. I would say ask your doctor but if he is not an osteopath or something he will not know and will keep directing low sodium. Also late stage kidney disease is a counter indicator.

"Everything in moderation." I eat whatever I want but in sensible quantities. (And I love chips with queso.)

I sure hope his healing is done soon. Mary so many of us are ill with something either age related or not.
I'm getting afraid to go to grocery now. Somebody coughs and that side of the store empties', I'm usually in first place, not shy about things anymore.

Trying to get back into the habit of exercising since I didn't do much of that during my trip to Michigan and back, today, I finished shoveling the driveway and sidewalk (after doing just enough to be able to park the car and get into the house yesterday), as well as shoveling paths to the oil tank, a couple of paths to the railroad tracks (since I like to walk along the tracks on the snow packed by snowmobiles), a path to the back door, and around the compost pile. Then I went for a 35-minute walk, followed by a half hour of hiking along the tracks and through the woods for another 45 minutes, and then 10 minutes on the elliptical machine. I still haven't met my minimums but I am within easy reach of them.

I loaded a whole bunch of firewood on the front porch yesterday getting ready for the chilly weather.

Today I replaced the water drain petcock on my air compressor, topped off the tires on my tractor and car (damn TPMS light came on again), and took the belly mower off of the tractor in case I need the tractor for the upcoming snow/tree removal.

What time did you do all this 'today?' The time I'm seeing says 12:04 AM. Either something is off with SOC.02's time setting or my thinking of 12 am is the transitioning of Friday to Satuday. :ROFLMAO:

We are as prepared for the winter storm as we're going to get. As long as the power stays on it should be pretty much a non-event for us since we mostly stay home anyhow.

I placed a grocery order and it's supposed to be ready for pickup at 2 o'clock. I'm curious to see how much of my order will be 'unavailable' or substituted. Of course we have plenty of food and supplies in the house so it's no big deal; I mostly wanted some fresh produce and meat that is on sale.
