SO is working on one of the water features. I will deal with the vegetable garden and maybe start on getting things ready for the new dining table.
I have been closely watching the wildfire maps for the PNW, and it looks like Washington, Oregon, and Idaho all have multiple fires burning right now. There are some really close to Bonners Ferry, where my oldest son lives, and people have been evacuated, but he is okay unless the fire jumps the Kootenai River, which is not looking likely.101 predicted high here today. I better get my walk in now at 71 degrees. Overcast due to high forest fire smoke. Smoke is staying high so air quality good. Early afternoon, over to famous cowboy steak house, last mom and pop one left in the area, with long time friends. Special today, Angus/Wagyu rib eye, baked potato, garden salad, and fresh baked bread. All ingredients, including wheat for bread, from local family farms and ranches.
Roofing in this heat is worrisome.Staying inside where it is cool. The Heat index will reach 110 degrees today.![]()
We also have a roofer contractor coming by to day to give an estimate on replacing our house roof and 3 out buildings.![]()
Closest fire is about 40 miles as the crow flies. Several small ones closer that they put out quickly. Some on the Rez they suspect were arson. Tribal firefighters got them out quickly.I have been closely watching the wildfire maps for the PNW, and it looks like Washington, Oregon, and Idaho all have multiple fires burning right now. How close are you to the fires to where you are at, @Faye Fox ? My (former) daughter-in-law lives near Bend, and it looks like she has fires around that area, too. People on facebook are reporting that some of the fires are being deliberately set, just like in other years, but it looks like lightning has started most of the fires this year.
I think a lot of these roofers are used to the heat. They are a bunch of young bucks. It will be mid-August before the roofers can get to us. He is busy and booked until then.Roofing in this heat is worrisome.

When we first bought this house, oh so many years ago, my husband and I tore off and shingled our roof ourselves. I could walk around up on the roof like a mountain goat. My husband hauled the shingles up on the roof by himself. We put new roofing underlayment on; I snapped the chalked lines, pounded nails into the shingles. We worked on the roof after work and on weekends. We didn’t really notice the heat too much at that age. I think I was in my mid to late 30's at that time.
This getting old B. S. Is frustrating for all of us ladies that have been used to doing for ourselves and working alongside the men when needed.
I am not growing old gracefully in that regard![]()
We have a two tiered roof here. I had my eaves cleaned ONCE and didn't ask the price first.I think a lot of these roofers are used to the heat. They are a bunch of young bucks. It will be mid-August before the roofers can get to us. He is busy and booked until then.

Today I went in for a 25# block of salt for the sheep. There weren't any. Then I saw 50#ers which I used to get. I settled for a 5lb this trip.In another lifetime, I could pick up 100# sack of oats, throw it on my shoulder, and get it to the grain container; probably why that shoulder needed stem cell a few years back. It’s only been in the last three years that I can no longer pick up 50# of horse feed and carry it up four steps to the landing.. Shoot, a 28# bag of dog feed has become problematic.
