What Are You Doing Today?

Peppers are exploding. Shishitos have started. A bucket will go with me to physical therapy tomorrow. They are interesting eaten raw or blistered with a bit of olive oil, finished with some salt, lemon and Parmesan.
Eviction notices will be issued to dust bunnies in the living room. It takes two men to move the sofa. I will bait a neighbor with cookies:)

Its very HOT here all week... I mean HOT like daytime humidex at 43c which is crazy...... Unfortunately we have to go out of town this week for some appointments.. We will cope somehow with A/C almost everywhere.. We have A/C in our house with a window unit in the living room.. This is the second week in a row that we are out of town.... W T F ........

Nothing happening here today per previous plan, other than I will push the garbage can out to the curb.

101F the high predicted for today and now at just shy of 5 AM, our time of lowest temperature, 74 F. I am not happy that A/C has to be on 24/7 lately, but thankful I have such centralized and can live in thermal comfort. Breaking daylight forced me to come in off my back patio where I drank my first cup of joe, donned only in workout bra and shorts.

I wasn't in the mood for my "hippie" pants and top, so I am going with my "Rizzo" (reference to Rizzo in the movie Grease) outfit. It is super comfy, which is a priority these hot days. I look outdated and rather tacky, but a look in the mirror revealed an outdated and rather tacky old character. :sneaky:

I'll be trying to avoid the heat (07 expected) and the stale stench of Canadian wildfire smoke. Smoke should get bad as the day goes on and tonight should be awful. Tomorrow the forecast is just "smoke" because it gets even worse.

I might saw up some more downed tree limbs, no shortage of those to tackle. Luckily nothing bigger than 5" diameter at least. Glad I got my mowing done over the weekend.

Aside from dragging solar panels around in the morning hours I will end up inside most of the day. We take a big hit on billing rates from 2 to 8 PM, so I have to get the place cooled down ahead of then. Too bad I can't capture enough power to run the A/C but I'm too hemmed in by trees here for that to ever work. At least I can runs fans off stored power easily enough.

Good morning to all-
Quiet day here. We don't have any appointments, schedules or demands today. I've already been down to the flying field to fly a little radio-control airplane around, and I made my trips to the local ponds to pester the fish.

I took off the clamps on the wooden chairs I repaired for my daughter's weaving workshop use, and the garden- well- it's so far gone now that the only thing to do with it is to crank up the field trimmer and take it all down to bare ground for fall planting- but not today.

I'd like to go to the beach, but the Blue Angels have a big show scheduled this week/weekend, and the beach where the Blues fly is not a good place to be at this time. Tens of thousands of mostly drunk, sunburned and out of control people- not a good place for me to be.

So, I think today just might be a calm, quiet day. Until the next disaster arrives, of course.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

I woke up sweating, not because of the temperature but the humidity, I guess. Have the ac set to maybe 76. I have to water plants around the house at least two times a day. I carry water in cat litter jugs to water all the stuff I have on the deck. Beans are FINALLY budding. After the destruction of actual crops at the farm by excessive rabbits this year. I filled long planters on the deck to try to keep stuff safe from all the critters here at the house. I have had DEER on the deck, for pete's sake, one year.
I have brussel sprouts on tables to keep marmots from them but haven't seen a wood chuck here this year. At the farm we've been trapping them. I have been picking cabbage moth caterpillers off the plants and will try a new bacteria I ordered that works as a spray on them this week.
It is supposed to be HOT one more day but hopefully will cool down next week. Garden at the farm is over. Done. Kaput.
I will be harvesting some weeds to put up and prepping for next year with a different plan of attack.
I put wire baskets over bean plants and found them pushed over and a rabbit was laughing at me yesterday.

I went to the doctor this morning to do something about this barking cough. It's only really bad at night when I am trying to sleep. I can't lay down with out coughing my toe nails up. I can't sleep on a stack of pillows without getting a headache or a stiff neck. I have to sit up. 😫 Over the counter cough syrup hasn't done a thing. So this morning I had an appointment with my NP, She couldn't believe they didn't give me anything at the walk-in clinic last week. She sent me a prescription in for Tessalon Perles. 🤞

Not much else today. My husband defrosted the deep freeze this morning while it is fairly empty. I wonder what else I can get him to do before he catches on.🤭😁

You could also try Spinosad as a cabbage moth remedy. I tried it last year and had no moth damage and the slugs were nil too. It is an organic output of soil bacteria and is marketed in combination with pyrethrum sometimes. Used alone it kills anything that eats your produce, but does not do much against aphids and such that suck juices. It is not labelled for slugs and snails, but the chicken lice formulation has a warning that it is very toxic for mollusks, so I will be trying on slugs and moths again if the rain ever stops. I use BT as well, but this is a newer angle for me and may have the benefit of being anti-slug/snail. We don't have garden snails, but I apparently introduced slugs to my property when I bought some nursery stock form a local Walmart a number (decades) of years ago.
