What Are You Doing Today?

Spent an hour going thru old meds, and discarding as AI suggested. I save all my inhaler bottles as I keep trying to remember to see if Walgreens in Dodge City sends in to recycle. It literally eats my lunch to put this stuff in the ground. Can not flush.
I reuse as many of the pill bottles as possible, They do come in handy. Done my good dead for the day
Wow we are going later to watch the firemen set off the fireworks.. yea!

I probably should be weeding (with a torch) or side-dressing today, but who knows if I will get around to it. I have to take down a few trees and cut up ones that are already down too. My truck is still down after a visit to the "pro". He thought it was electrical, but I think it is fuel system related. I bought a MAP sensor, so I am going to try to get that swapped if I can get the right tool to get to it.

I spent way too much time on the laptop today. Here again.
I went to the bank after my daughter came home but it was CLOSED for the holiday weekend!!!
My handiman told me he can't cut wood anymore for me.
???
He had a broken wedged limb tied up to cut but the support branch broke when the holding rope snapped and it all fell on his chainsaw. Better the saw than him. I have a chainsaw but it isn't as good a one as his was.
The rain made all the weeds gigantic in two days but much easier to pull them. I am replacing the beans with carrots although the beans are struggling to come back to feed the rabbits. My squash and cukes are doing well. I even put in watermelon which is doing well and I have never had luck with them. I guess they all like going through drought and heat conditions.
I feel like I have bugs crawling all over me. Oh, I do.

I went through this with meds a while ago and I literally just got done cleaning out a closet of this kind of stuff (old insect repellents, etc.) The only things you can drop off at drug stores, government drug drop-off centers, etc, are pharmaceuticals. The drop-off kiosks at drug stores can only accept small prescription containers. If there's a liquid pharmaceutical in a bottle and it will fit, the bottle goes in a Ziploc bag in case of leakage. OTC stuff (aspirin, Benadryl, etc) gets thrown in the trash.

I have a yellow jacket ground nest that I destroyed but the hole in the ground is still there. Everything but scripts and stuff I can drop off on HAZMAT Collection Day (mostly gas, diesel & oil, paint) goes down there to perk through the earth...cough syrup, some household stuff, expired cooking oil, etc. But I'm on 50 acres, and the hole is on high ground so it won't wash away into streams. And it's not a great volume.

I was shocked there's no institutional concern over the stuff that concerns me...but what do I know?

You may want to check police departments.
 
I spent the day watching episodes of the Route 66 documentary. I never traveled the entire route from Chicago to Santa Monica, but I have been on sections in Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Parts of Route 66 are still drivable and it seems there’s a resurrection of the route. I sure hope so. When people say something is as American as baseball & apple pie, they need to also include Route 66.

There are several parts of the documentary that can be googled if any one is interested 🤠

Annnnd IT RAINED🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️. I got a good thunderstorm and a quick cooling down to 77 degrees —— 👍👍. That said the thunderstorm tore a roof off 35 miles east, before it got to me. This was an east to west storm, which is not that common where I live.

Nashville hit a real temp of 101 today. Thankfully I only saw a real temp of 94. I know the humidity will be back, but the storm this afternoon did a great job of cooling until sunset💦💦

That's what I was referring to when I said "other government drop-off centers." Our sheriff's department takes prescription drugs to keep them off of the streets. They don't care about Bayer aspirin and Robitussin cough syrup. I figured my way is cleaner than doing what I was told to do and thrown the stuff out to be taken to the landfill. At least my way of doing small quantities every few years will perk through layers of soil and won't be concentrated with a bunch of other stuff.
 
Yes the sheriff office was taking in used batteries, that is all. I will call Walgreen;s again before taking all my inhaler bottles to them. Things here in the Plains of Ks, is just not like our lives in Texas. We are friends with a city council person and we were discussing this issue last night. There just are not any real recycling places here for anything anymore.
The pills I crushed into plastic bag(plastic,um) emptied the ontimets on top, and will fill with coffee grounds as suggested.
It just pains me to throw away so much stuff in a landfill, but very little choice.
 
Taking care of Marks boil on leg. He had these even as a kid. Will make due until Monday. Doing the Epson salt thing.
Watered - sigh - his lifeless plants for outside, All but one is dead, but he can deal later with that. His garden was such a disaster this year, even the huge tub ones, doubtful they progress.
Usual meal prep stuff, not sure how to spend rest of the day. The laundry room ceiling is still unattended, now due to holidays .
Yesterday more fell out after the washing machine danced all over the floor:confused:. Water leak in back yard , will probably get capped off for now. Mark keeps trying to get me to agree to pay at least half to fix. We rent this place..No,even if it is from family member.We have already spent enough on this place as is.
So do not sure what the day will bring.
 
The fireworks started here last night. It finally got up near 90 here, so AC until I get up. Shut windows cut out the worst of the blast, but when the kids next to me set off their big illegal fireworks, at midnight, it woke me up and I had to pee. I crouched down while using the toilet in order to avoid flying bullets overhead. When realization woke me and I could assume a more comfortable position, I woke up more than I wanted, so getting back to sleep only happened after the kids next door decided to save their bombs for tonight. The distant booms had me off to sleep in short order.

Since this 4th is a Saturday, I suspect all hell will break our tonight. I was telling a Vietnam Vet that I wish we could get the National Guard to fly low over the sites of the illegal fireworks, so low they could feel the wind and hear the sound of the whirling blades. Maybe some soldiers with red paint ball filled machine guns, firing at them. They want a war reenactment, we should give it to them.

The cops gave up years ago, responding to all the illegal fireworks calls.

I am a very patriotic person, but it is my opinion that all these people that enjoy blasting these mini bombs, don't do it because they are patriots, but rather just to party.

Today is yard mowing day and an early start will be necessary to beat the heat. I may take a nap today, so any loss of sleep, hunkering down on the latrine, will be already compensated. You can bet your sweet biff, I won't have the bedroom ceiling fan on.

And in my county, there is no municipal trash pickup. You cart your stuff to various drop-off points. There is a large container for garbage, one for cardboard, and one for other recyclables (glass, plastics, magazines.) I guarantee that no one really knows what can and cannot be recycled (no waxed cardboard such as cereal boxes, and only certain plastics with specific recycling numbers on them.) I have no idea how/if the chaff is separated from the wheat when non-compliant stuff is just tossed in there.

The county will receive batteries to be recycled at these drop-off points, but I bet there are few here who are aware of it. There are no signs, just a bunch of Fresh Step cat litter buckets sitting on the ground by the garbage container. You gotta know what they're for. There is nothing on the county website that indicates these are available. I forget how I found out.

Individuals can contract with curbside pickup services if they don't want to haul their own stuff out (maybe some HOAs do it for the entire subdivision.) I was talking to the guy who mans one of the drop-off points because the containers are often overflowing, or a given site gets closed until the containers can be emptied. The population is outgrowing the capacity. The county either needs more drop-off points and/or they need to accelerate the frequency with which the stuff is picked up and taken to the landfill. I'm sure at some point the idiots who move here will demand that we have municipal garbage pickup so it's "free" and they don't have to pay for their own commercial service. I have a 1/2 mile long driveway. If I gotta put the stuff in my truck to take it to "curbside," I may as well keep driving to the drop-off center.

It is so nice and cool here this morning (76 earlier) but supposed to be back up to 92 later. We had a real thunderstorm and downpour last evening, so everything is nice and soaked, which is a good thing becasue people are already setting off firecrackers and fireworks. It was not as many as some years, and there were a few that went off at midnight, too; but mostly pretty quiet last night.
Pretty much it will just be a regular day for us today.

There is someone in the "neighborhood" that set some off last night but I suspect it was just a warm-up for this evening. I'm a little concern for the risk of fire, We're supposed to have a brief storm roll through here early this evening. Maybe it will wet things down a bit and then move on so the displays don't get rained out.
