I never considered myself a "Hero" because I chose not to get vaccinated for Covid or the Flu. I've always been an independent thinker. And I never criticized anyone who chose to get vaccinated UNTIL they put me down, then I went to town on them (like my idiot nephew.) Respectful criticism is fine. Insults are not.
As a result, I missed out on those free tickets to baseball & football games. And no free Tacos, either. Damn!
Speaking of heroes, during Covid, Kaiser & a couple of other hospitals hung up big signs at the entrances - "Heroes Work Here."
I noticed those signs while I searched for those refrigerated meat trucks to store corpses of Covid victims in hospital parking lots, as reported.
The purpose (of course) was to reinforce the idea that Covid was so deadly, doctors & nurses were incredibly courageous to care for patients.
Also amusing: TV news showed doctors & nurses wearing Space Suits with Breathing Apparatus. But when I drove friends to three different hospitals for minor surgery, and my sister to a fourth hospital for a sprained ankle, none of the medical personnel were wearing any protective gear. Most were not even wearing masks.

At the beginning of Covid, the healthcare people--not JUST doctors and nurses--were incredibly brave an dedicated, as they didn't know how deadly Covid really was. Hospitals turned out to be the best environment for Covid transmission, so medical folks with co-morbidities were particularly at risk. Radiology and Respiratory personnel were exposed as much as were the nurses. Doctors are generally less exposed, as they don't spend as much time with the patients as (especially) the nurses, and, in the case of early Covid, the respiratory therapists who were manning and dealing with the respirators the doctors believed were keeping people alive.

Anyone who makes personal choices that fly in the face of public rage can be considered brave.
 
I agree with @Beth Gallagher in that there is no point in ridiculing or otherwise putting someone down who listened to a different expert than you did. In 2020, the prevailing voice for the medical community, the only one that was allowed a voice, was that everyone should line up for the mRNA vaccination. While I, and roughly 20% of the population, questioned that advice, it could be considered reasonable to go along with it at that time, particularly given that many people were not allowed to work, visit family, or even travel without the vaccination.

I also believe that those who were in the minority in 2020, and the experts whose voices were difficult to find then, have since been proven right, but I wouldn't expect the mRNA-pushers in 2020 to admit, in 2026, that they were wrong, and those who received the vaccines and the boosters can be expected to either continue to insist they were right in having done so, or be angry about it, and most of us don't enjoy being angry.

While it seems clear today, to those who are willing to look, that the mRNA COVID vaccines were not a good idea, those who got them can't undo that, so they can deal with that however they wish. It makes sense to warn someone when you see danger, but it doesn't make sense to ridicule someone, after the fact, for listening to their doctor and the man whom the federal government, under both Trump and Biden, appointed as the spokesperson for medical science. I'm happy that I didn't do it, but it has to be considered reasonable to have listened to them at the time.

I agree with you about not being mad at others but the friends I told everyone about wont let this go.. YES THEY PROBABLY SEE I WAS RIGHT but why dont they let this go???

This is harder for me than most people realise .. I am lucky everyone here isnt the type to get mad! (I dont wanna anger everyone)

Over here you've got to be 65 to get a free flu vaccine , and the Covid vaccine has been stopped for all but a few .

If you're younger than 65 but live with a vulnerable person you can also get the vaccine.

But for those that want the vaccines and are not eligible they can be purchased from a chemist .

Yes, we "lost" family to the COVID and what happened during it.

My wife and I have pre-COVID conditions- pulmonary stuff- that makes us very susceptible to any kind of lung disease. We anticipated the vaccine and as soon as possible, we had the shots, No problem and no COVID- that's a big win for us.

but we had close family who wanted to come and "visit" during and after the shut down and before we had full vaccine shots. We asked if they had the vaccines and they got all crazy with us about how bad the shots were and that they would never be vaccinated against COVID. We told them that we could not chance being around folks who MIGHT expose us to the disease, and that was the end of family ties.

Haven't seen these close family members since- they were MAGA crazy, too, so although I regret the lose of them, it might have been for the best.

COVID was bad, but I think our country did the best that could have been done- and I don't regret having schools closed one bit- too many health-fragile kids around to chance infection and spread of COVID.

Don't be silly. The signs never asks for us to wear a mask 'correctly'. or that your mask had to be any particular kind....
