Professional female athletes have consistently complained that they do not make the $ that men do in the same sport. The answer to that complaint has been that women’s sports do not draw as many paying fans as the men’s do ergo less money for the ladies.
Then, enter Caitlin Clark and later Sophie Cunningham. Before Clark’s entrance, my understanding is that the stands at any given game might have a few hundred patrons at best. Now, the stands are packed especially when the Fever plays but nonetheless, the WNBA is being noticed and the money is coming in and the pro players are getting endorsements and better contracts.
What I do not understand is why those players who are so adamantly vicious toward Caitlin AND her team cannot figure out that their bread is being buttered by few players who are really good at it and love the sport. Just play the game and make the money they’ve wanted the league to make for years now. Nope. Just gotta play the race card or whatever card whilst saying bye-bye to that bonus money.
Moreover, why can they not see that if the WNBA brings in biological males pretending to be women into the game, that they will go by the wayside in the same fashion as Bud Light?
The whole league will go back to making pocket change whilst the ladies will again be busy complaining that they don’t make the same money as their male opposites.
