TV/Streaming Series or Movie Reviews

Okay, this video is a parody of Star Wars, called “Hardware Wars”, and it features such things as flying irons, waffle makers, and a robot vacuum cleaner named “Artie Deco”( R2D2). It is about 13 minutes long, and is so silly , it is funny. We can’t quite call it a review of Star Wars, but it sort of is.

 
I watched the movie PREY (2022). Sci-fi genre. I believe it is along the lines of the Predator franchise which started starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (1987). I really enjoyed watching this young Comanche girl on her journey of hunting and to prove to her tribe that she could.
There were a few scenes that I thought 'Now, that was stupid.' but for the most part the movie line was without question perfect. I've watched it 3x.
 
Every few years, I watch the Jesse Stone movies, which are enjoyable, although you might not consider them to be great cinema. There are ten of them, however, so I think it's fair to say that I'm not the only one who likes them. The last time, I set out to watch them in order, but then I lost the order, and I'm not sure that I actually watched them all. This time, I will try to watch them in chronological order. Each one is a full movie in its own right, but each one builds on the other so it does help to watch them in order. This is the order:

  1. Jesse Stone: Stone Cold (2005)
  2. Jesse Stone: Night Passage (2006)
  3. Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise (2006)
  4. Jesse Stone: Sea Change (2007)
  5. Jesse Stone: Thin Ice (2009)
  6. Jesse Stone: No Remorse (2010)
  7. Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost (2011)
  8. Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt (2012)
  9. Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise (2015)
  10. Jesse Stone: The Last Goodbye (2019)
 
However, I am on Jesse Stone: Night Passage now, and it appears that it is a prequel. The movie series is about his tenure as police chief in Paradise, Massachusetts. The first movie, Stone Cold, produced in 2005, begins with him already serving as police chief, but the second one, which I am watching now, is about him applying for the job. So, I suspect they didn't intend on a bunch of movies when they did the first one, or they decided they needed a prequel, which isn't unusual.
 
Today my wife and I decided to go to a movie, I can't remember the last time I've seen a movie on the big screen.

We went to an 11:25am showing of Spielberg's Disclosure Day. I was very disappointed, I didn't know what to expect, however I thought for sure with Spielberg there be a good storyline. It turned out to be mostly a chase film, which was the crescendo for the final scene and disclosure. The special effects were very good even though I thought the animals could have looked more real.

It did skim over some true UFO events, like Roswell and Kecksburg, as an attempt to make the story feel more real. I felt if you didn't follow UFOs and know some of the theories out there about them this story might be difficult to follow.
 
The 27th Day (1957)

I really enjoyed this one. The trailer here covers the premise, setting, the events in broad strokes, but thankfully does not spoil the grim but very hopeful ending. How can it be both grim and hopeful? Well, you'd have to watch for that answer. ;)

Each of the main characters has a different story when it comes to their choices after being returned to Earth. And much of the film's charm is as a vignette of 1950s society. If you watch the trailer below it might suggest this is a pretty sci-fi-ish movie, but it really isn't. Almost not at all in the popular sense. It is more dramatic, more an exploration of what might happen in such a situation. "The Day The Earth Stood Still" comes to mind as similar.

This wasn't made as low-budget fodder for the drive-in teen audience. It gave people something to think about, but it isn't something high and snooty either.

Skip the viewing of this trailer for a more "organic" movie watching experience.


I find so little I can sit through ant more in modern movies and TV. This is taking me back to media from the late 1930s through the end of the 1990s.

You can probably find it for free on YouTube or other sources of older content.
 
Since at this time of year we have watched most of our British, Australian, Canadian shows=including repeats of each, he turns to older American shows. Lately Barney Miller, Nash Bridges, Riptide, to name a few. The down side to his TV watching is he watches nothing but that one show until he has watched it all. It gets old to me. I retire to bedroom after dinner to watch what I want.I have enjoyed the above shows, I just do not need it 24/7 without much of a break.

My wife and I just finished watching 9 Jesse Stone movies.

These were very enjoyable whodunit movies, with the side story of Jesse personal life, starring Tom Selleck as Jesse Stone. I particularly enjoyed the acting and combative conversations with Jesse's psychiatrist Dr Dix, starring William Devane. I felt Jesse's character was arrogant and caring just enough to make him respected and lovable.

For me I couldn't wait to see the next movie. We've been fans of Tom Selleck since we first watched him on an episode of Mannix back in the 70's.

Tom Selleck also had a hand in co-authoring some if not all of the episodes. He was also the executive producer. I found it also interesting that he made 4 Jesse Stone movies while he was on Blue Bloods.

We watch the 9 movies on the LG Streaming Service, which is free (lots of commercials) if you purchased a LG TV. I understand there is a 10th movie, if I see it available I will definitely watch it.
 

I can't give a movie review of this movie because I wouldn't want to include spoilers, but it is a very good movie, particularly for one with only two actors, both of whom are 10 until near the end, when they are seen as elderly.
 
I recently recalled a TV mini-series from the 1980's called "V" about an alien invasion. It was quite popular at the time but we never watched it, so I got it from Amazon Video. I believe it's 5 episodes; I haven't watched it yet but my husband reports a high "cheese factor" so now I'm not sure I'll bother.

I remember this series. I was all into sci-fi movies. I liked it.

I liked it because I liked Mark Sanger. But I liked him better in the movie If You Could See What I Hear.
