Does anyone know the difference between an deer and an antelope?
The main difference is deer have antlers that's they shed, antelope have a horn similar to a goat and it's permanent. There are other differences like antelope are faster, deer have a larger global range. I'm sure there are more differences that I don't remember or know.
I think I've mentioned in Prior post that I had a love for Animals throughout my life, and that I visited Trefflich's the world's largest Pet Shop many times.
Another one of my heroes was Frank Buck I must have read his book "bring em back alive" 20 times. He also made movies (serials), I watched many of them. I believe he still has a zoo in Texas.
As a kid the idea of starting a business that involve animals was always in the back of my mind. I thought maybe I should own a pet shop when I got older. Then an idea popped in my head from reading a book it was called Animals Of The World. I found an animal in it, I thought it would make a great pet. I was 15 years old but I did have a lot of Dreams.
I figured I can get Trefflich's to capture and import them. The animal was the Royal Antelope the world's smallest antelope, I thought it would make a perfect pet.
It stood approximately 10 inches high at the shoulder, weight up to 5 lb, had short horns, and had a reddish color. Not much bigger than a house cat. I wanted to raise them and sell them for pets. Went to the library to research them and also to find out what Government agency would have to approve importing them. They lived in herds which meant I would need some land and have to have I believe it was one male to every five females to start my business.
A nice lady that worked at the library, help me look up what government agency I had to contact to approve importing wild animals.
With pencil and paper to take notes I called the phone number for the Government agency. After the usual run around I finally connected to somebody who can answer my questions about the legality of importing these antelopes. I was dealt a blow that stopped my momentum like I hit a brick wall. This fellow was very knowledgeable, he rattled off things like you're going to need a license, plus you're going to have to keep them in quarantine for a number of months because of hoof and mouth disease it would have to be checked by a vet every so often, and on and on.
Of course I didn't have the money to do all that my idea came to a end. I was disappointed maybe because it was more I wanted one for myself I really like them.
I was 15 and pretty ambitious I did find a rare colored hamsters that I got from a breeder in Texas. I got a male and two females back then we called them cream today I think they call them honey bear I'm not sure. But I was able to have a few litters and sell the pups to a local pet store. When I first brought them to the pet shop the owner wanted more because he had never seen that color before. I could only give him what I had I probably should have ordered more mating pairs.
