Now Again I'm trying to stay out of politics because I fear the time to speak out has passed.
Schumer is making ignorant statements about the U.S. trade deficit and inflation in a public speech. I don't know if he is really that ignorant or if he is just appealing to ignorant and uninformed voters.
When do we get rid of the dozens of 269% tariffs Canada has imposed on our imports for many years? Yet they wet their pants at our 25%.From, to all of our friends and neighbours around the world, it's a BIG BEAUTIFUL DAY today thanks to the Supreme Court Ruling striking down donny's illegal tariffs.
Is this what you are looking for? When do we get rid of the dozens of 269% tariffs Canada has imposed on our imports for many years? Yet they wet their pants at our 25%.
I'll see if I can dig up the chart. There are a ton of them.
Thanks. I found the extracted info I was looking for.Is this what you are looking for?
Here we go. Preceded the Evil Trump and his unconscionable 25% by many decades:
edited to add: I just discovered that most of the high tariffs are anti-dumping measures, and only kick in after certain volumes of imported goods are reached. Anything below those thresholds are subject to much lower tariffs.

This is emblamatic of how much of the rest of the world has screwed us, with Congress being highly complicit...but I'm sure our "representatives" (and our "journalists") are treated nicely when they go abroad. bastards
That is excellent explanation of tariffs. I knew it but he said it much better than I ever could have. Here is a video from Glen Beck, explaining why he now believes that President Trump is correct about tariffs, haw the USA was started to be with tariff and not income tax, and why it helps America.
It totally makes sense to me if imported commodities are going to have tariffs that more companies would build their products here in the US, and we would make and use more of our own , instead of buying it from China or elsewhere, thus helping our economy to grow, which still allowing trade with other countries.
Already companies that had moved to Mexico or other countries are now starting to open factories here again, and companies from other countries like Canada are also opening manufacturing plants here in the United States so that they can sell without the tariffs.
No way the Fed will let go of the income tax. It's great data-mining on us...not just employer name & income, but all that data they gather centrally regarding investments, our homes, mortgages, real estate taxes, the personal property we have if we deduct those taxes, number of children, etc etc etcThat is excellent explanation of tariffs. I think I have mentioned in the past that an attorney once told me that every lawyer knows that the income tax return is unconstitutional as you are judged on information provided by the taxpayer in violation of the 5th Amendment prohibiting testimony against oneself. The attorney said no judge would rule against the return as they believed the government would fall as a result. As I understand it, most other advanced nations issue income tax bills and you only have to file a return if you are contesting the amount billed, similar to what is now done with property taxes in most locations. It would not do away with the tax itself, but a brave Federal judge could make the return unnecessary. No way the Fed will let go of the income tax. Time to send a Hawaiian judge an email telling him Trump likes keeping the returns.I th
