Just a question I and others have been asked:
Well, the Bible says “The land of Nod”.
B-b-b-b-but, if Cain was the second born after the fall, where did Nod and all those people who lived there come from?
Okay, what I have for ya’ll is pure speculation but it’s well founded even if the Bible isn’t totally specific about it and to be truthful, better Biblical scholars than I have been arguing about it for a millennia or more so I could be totally wrong or I and many like me are totally right..or at least, a little bit right.
In short, the Bible doesn’t say anything specific about how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before the fall. We know that Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born but his birth didn’t occur until after Adam and Even were thrown out of Eden.
Here’s twist #1.
In Gen. 1:28, we have God blessing Adam and Even saying: “Go forth and mulitply” so why would they not start playing house and having kids when they were actually commanded to do so and in the safe haven of Eden?
Hence another question that has been asked:
What about incest?
We have to remember that all of Eden and those in Eden were pure, unblemished and highly blessed by God. No sickness, no disabilities, no whacky g-nomes to hamper procreation.
And also remember, it wasn’t until the Law of Moses was passed down (Leviticus 18:20) that incest became a major issue.
Twist #2.
As I alluded to before, Adam’s age (and aging) might have not have started until his and Eve’s banishment from Eden.
In other words, aging became part of the “curse” ergo Adam’s age of 130 when Seth was born was also how many years had transpired since sin had corrupted them and God kicked everyone out of Eden and closed the doors.
Added to that proposal, Adam and Even (and their proposed progeny) could have been doing all the “begetting” thing for 200, 500 or however many years before the exile.
After the exile, all the kids and grandkids and cousins did what humans do: explore, wander, hunt, become tribal, build small communities, procreate, etc.
Long story shortened, the good folks who left Eden had plenty of time before Cain killed Able to multiply, build towns and also, provide a wife for Cain in the Land of Nod.
Again, all of this is pure speculation but it could have happened that way. So far as I can figure, theBible doesn’t say it did or didn’t so “dream on”.
