Shopping--What did you buy?

I would love to be a Vine member ! I try to review the amazon products that I buy, but I have never been invited. Is there a secret I need to know about to become a Vine member ?

I have a card with mine that I can show at the airport that exempts me from airport scanners. It's safe around microwaves but I don't think I can have x-rays or MRIs near it.
X-rays shouldn't bother it, but MRIs are definitely a danger, and if MRIs are done on pacemaker patients, strict precautions must be taken. Here they have trained nurses and technicians at hand to restart everything should it go awry, so it is generally avoided if possible. At the airport, they are just over-cautious, and they don't know what type of pacemaker you have even with the card. Even a lot of doctors and imaging techs don't know the types. It is often the leads that are an issue in addition to the pacer itself. I have one that is supposedly immune to everything, but most imaging places won't do MRIs. I have on occasion gone through a scanner at the airport by accident with no bad effects.

I am fine with X-rays. I always tell them that I have a pacemaker, and they say the x-ray is fine. Definitely not the MRI since it is magnetic, as is the induction cooking plate.
When my heart was working on its own and just had the pacemaker when it went too slow, I didn’t worry about it so much. Now, after the AV node block, it controls my whole heart, and if the pacemaker stops, I have NO heartbeat. So I am VERY careful now.

You are a special case @yvonne as you have undergone an ablation, right? Shopping strayed into medical devices...sorry.

I suppose they use some kind of algorithm. When I was invited, it was many years ago and I had been shopping with Amazon since 1996 for books. I've always been a review writer because I appreciate them from other people. They just sent the invitation out of the blue and I've never known the how or why of it. I thought they would scrap my membership since I barely participate, and haven't for many years (like before cancer/covid/etc.)

The program has changed a lot over the years, making it a lot less thrilling than it used to be. They used to release the Vine products once a week and it was a scramble to get anything before the snipers beat you to it. There was NO income tax reported on anything which was a bonus. It was just more fun back then.

I ordered a couple of lightweight blankets and a set of sheets. Making up spare rooms for holiday visitors made me realize that some of my bedding has seen better days. I also ordered a new cookbook and the latest USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning book.

I’ve got 3 or maybe 4 canning books , for me …this …BALL book is the best ..quite expensive ( I was lucky to get it given to me )
I believe the ball blue book is the pick of the bunch ….but it’s quite expensive….some of what I have that have been bought from op shops have fancy recipes with added liquors / spices ….I'm not interested in those I just like plain bottled fruit …. @Beth Gallagher

If I’m unsure about some things when it comes to preserving or the safety of canning you can’t beat looking up Red rose homestead you tubes
On the subject ( what forum was Red Rose homestead preserving …on coupe of days ago .?) 😀😀

I also have several canning books, including that Ball Blue Book, Kate. I have done a lot of water bath canning but I'm just deciding to try my hand at pressure canning... so I thought I'd get the USDA book which is supposed to be the "end-all" for food safety. Most of the information is available for free online, and from the University of Georgia website but I like having a book to write notes in and underline stuff. :D.

With my spinal stenosis and some weight gain, it's very difficult in the morning for me to get my socks on. So, I recently purchased a product that is great to help you get your socks on.

"DMI Deluxe Sock Aid / Helper - Easily Pull on Socks Without Bending, Slip Resistance, Reliable Sock Aid Device for Seniors, White"

What a big help this product is. It may not get your sock all the way up on your ankle, but at least it gets it up far enough for you to grab it and pull it up the rest of the way.1765975562074.jpeg

Since cars mostly don't come with spare tires anymore, I ordered this portable air compressor pump to carry in my car. It's small and connects to the car battery to air up tires.

Did you check and see if your car came with one? Ours did, and we never knew it had been in the car for 10 years. Since we had never had to change a tire, I never knew it was there. It was in the little alcove for the Jack.

I remember you mentioning that you found the air compressor pump in the van, and that you had no idea that it was there for all of those years. The spare tire for our Ranger is underneath, but I don’t know where the jack is at.

I don't review most of the stuff that I buy on Amazon anymore. I quit doing that over a year ago, after they removed an objective review that I had given three stars to, for a pet food that neither of my cats or even the strays would eat. I still gave it three stars because the ingredients looked good and, because cats are both finicky and individualistic, I assumed that some cats probably like it. I talked about the ingredients looking excellent, and that the food looked like I would be good, and so on, but that I couldn't give more than three stars to a cat food that my cats wouldn't eat, or even the strays. The raccoons ate it but it wasn't marketed as raccoon food.

I got an email from the producer asking me to reconsider my review. He went on to talk about how a three-star review would hurt their sales. Three stars is supposed to be satisfactory but everyone considers anything less than four stars to be negative these days. A couple of weeks later, I found that my review had been removed. Ironically, I had bought kibble from the same company at the same time, and I had given the kibble five stars because the ingredient list was good and everyone liked it. That review remained.

So, I no longer put a lot of credence in Amazon reviews, and don't usually waste my time reading or writing them.

When I'm considering a purchase, I always read the 3 stars-and-less reviews because I want to know what people found lacking. Most times it's something ridiculous like the shipping was late or some random whining. I don't know why some people don't understand what a 'product review' is.
